PS3 looks horrible on the Benq monitor

I fired up Modern Warfare 2 on my Benq G2420HDBL and was shocked to see how bad it looked; looks just a bit better than a PS2 game. I'm not sitting that close (about 1.5-2m). At first I thought it was the cables and adaptors and that it wasn't running at 1920x1280 but no it's definitely at 1080p. The menus (from the ps3 screen) look crisp and sharp however.

I've gone through every setting on the monitor and ps3 with no difference.
Is it just like that?

Hi there,

What connections are you using to connect the PS3 to the BenQ?

If you are using a HDMI to DVI adapter/cable, then that is the best you will get. As mentioned by the guys above - most PS3 games are rendered in resolutions below 1080p, and then upscaled by the PS3 to 1080p resolution. Hence, compared to a PC game using the same monitor (where the game is rendered in the native 1080p resolution), the PS3 game will not look as good.

However, if you are connecting to the monitor via VGA, then you are not using the best connection. Supposedly the VGA scaling on the BenQ is not great - and investing in a HDMI to DVI cable like this would be a very good idea (or an adapter like this if you already have a standard HDMI cable).

I have to say how shocked I was a couple of months back.

Gave up PC gaming ages ago as the costs were getting too high. Just played on PS3 up until around 2 months ago when I upgraded to an i7 and GTX470. Completely blown away with the graphics. Makes the PS3 look like a SNES! LOL

Yea but all the great games this year wont be on pc.
And imo uncharted 2 /killzone 2 still best looking games on any platform.

Alright thanks guys :)

Yeah I'm using HDMI-DVI.

PS3 renders at around 576p and upscales. The 360 renders around 600p and upscales... upshot is, on a monitor they look awful! Tvs manage the upscale much better.

It's more to do with the fact that most people sit far closer to their monitor than a TV, hence you get to see the graphical flaws much easier on a monitor.
