I don't want to bore you too much with my situation but am interested in hearing some opinions so will outline as briefly but accurately as is needed.
I am seeking work. I have been to a an interview for a finite contracted support role (helpdesk, basically) and have since been offered the job. Prior to the offer I was presented with another role and indicated I wanted to go for interview but was also at a 2nd interview stage with the 1st company. They were interested enough in me to bring the interview forward to the next day instead of their preferred next week time as a result of me being at a progressed stage with another company.
I went to interview, it went well, the next day I was informed they wanted to go to a 2nd interview and was next week okay with me - it was.
On the morning of the 2nd interview they postponed it and set no new date. The only info I got from the agency was that they were not ready for 2nd stage interviews and that the company perhaps had not entirely decided on the role and/or how many people they wanted. (It's a newly created role that does not exist currently)
I was happy to sit on the offer and wait for a new date while they worked out whatever was going on that postponed the 2nd interview. It was bizzare, and I don't see why they just would not do the 2nd interview anyway and then if need be look back at it retrospectively with whatever/whoever it was they were doing or interviewing additionally - But hey ho.
Regardless, since then I have not got any new info, any rough dates. The company has been informed I am sitting on an offer and basically indicated it was not going to be a quick recruitment process but that they were interested enough that I could come back to them after the contract in the 1st role expired and see what was what then.
I am not 100% confident the agency is communicating clearly enough with the company, both my intent and interest and also communicating back to me what they are saying.
I considered contacting the company directly with a clear statement of my interest in the role, I am willing to risk losing the offer for the position but on the assumption that they are somewhat interested and they are planning to make the 2nd interview date at some point. Trust me when I say this statement would be done with very light treading and in no way come across as pushy or an ultimatum - merely a VERY clear indication of my interest, willingness to wait etc.
But at the end of the day they are using an agency for a reason and they may frown upon me "moving outside of the process in-place" so perhaps it would be more prudent of me to ask the agency to relay it on my behalf? Or not try at all?
I am not in a position financially where I HAVE to accept the offer I have, I can wait it out for what I feel is the better, far more suited perm role. If I was not I would have accepted the offer already.
Basically the cliffs are as follows:
Would you take issue to a candidate contacting you directly?
Would you take issue to a candidate contacting you in-directly via the agency?
What are you thoughts on a 2nd stage interview being postponed with no new date set?
Do you think the agency (which at the end of the day is there to earn fees) is not being entirely honest about the position of the company?
