Reported new drugs craze in South Africa.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20110127/twl-hiv-whoonga-drug-craze-grips-south-a-3fd0ae9.html

The street drug called "whoonga" is a cocktail that includes the antiretroviral (ARV) medication prescribed to people with HIV.

Demand for the substance has prompted a wave of thefts of Aids drugs across the country.

Users crush the ARVs and smoke them with a mixture of rat poison, detergent and marijuana to get high.

Times must be bad for people to resort to stuff like this.

I find it quite unbelievable to be honest. Rat poison?

PapaLazaru, I recognise your username from somewhere. Did you post on the PC Gamer (UK) forums before CVG ruined it?

No, not me mate. I know the username is used quite a lot. Must all be fans of LoG. :)

It has been my online gaming name for about 6 years now, though I did spell it slightly wrong to nab it.

rat poison is commonly used as additive in other street drugs.

What I want to know is, who came up with that mix?

"yeah we'll whack a pinch of ganja in here, a dash of ARV, and a little sprinkle of rat posion. Pukka! Get your gob around that!"

Only if you are editor of the Daily Mail. There is no proven case of it ever being used as such in the real world.

As for the OP, I've long since given up being surprised by what people will attempt to get high on. There are people who smoke Jimson Weed to get off their faces, for instance.
