Hello starting a warlock in wow and I am stuck I want to make the right choice,

Enchanting and Tailoring VS Herbalism and Alchemy

What would be the best? maybe something else?

Are you new to the game?
If so i think Herbalism and Alchemy would be your best bet it seemed to level faster for me than any other combo of professions.

Tailor/enchanting is a great combination but you wont make any real money from it until you maqx yer skill or have really rare recipes . I personally would not touch it unless i had a few thousand gold in the bank .

herb/alchy is win win cost and profit wise although less use at 85 (although not usless) herbs sell for loads (sometimes 300g for 20) and potions/flasks are alwasy needed .

finish that char with alchy/herb and make some cash and put tailor/enchant on yer second char .

Persil

yes I am new ok thanks, I can still change can't I and keep my levels?

You can change at any time but you lose all the prof skill points and recipes

Not if you know what you are doing. You disenchant the stuff you make. Use the dust to level and sell the essences. Can recoup most of the cost that way. Still cost you though. Don't need max level or rare recipes to make money, Netherweave bags are cheap to make and a steady seller.

This combo has great self buffs but the you stuff you make via tailoring pretty useless. Unlike the pots you get off Alchemy.

if your new to the game and not sure what to do go with gathering professions herbalism and mining. Find a alch levelling guide and store the herbs you'll need to level alchemy when you hit the lvl cap and sell everything else

Want to add. If you starting out I would go with mining/herbalism and sell everything you find. Loads of mining nodes in low level areas. Ore sells for a few gold per stack. Low level herbs are generally vendor trash but the price shots up.

Also get the fishing and cooking secondary prof and do the daily quests in Origrimmar/Stormwind. You'll get a fair chunk of gold for a few minutes work.

Once you got a fair chunk of money think about something more useful like enchanting, jewelcrafting or alchemy.

Jewelcrafting nice partner for mining but can be ungodly expensive to level but can be obscenely profitable ;)

Avoid engineering like the plague!

For the first character I would personally recommend Mining and Skinning or Herbalism and Skinning.

Leathers make much more than ore on my server.

Lots of options later on depending on whether you want to minimise your own costs (Enchating and/or Jewlecraftign would be my choices then) or make money.

Don't go for any of the expensive professions, for beginners the best combo would be herbalism+alchemy, once you get to lvl 85 you can then make tons of gold just from farming herbs or selling flasks.

I would even suggest going for 2 gathering professions ie, herbalism, mining, skinning, pick anything you want.

Having 2 gathering professions will let you have an epic riding skill in the quickest possible time and trust me this is what you want asap.

You said that someone gave you 100g, this is nothing my friend, some professions cost around 10k+ gold to get from lvl 1 to 525 unless you want to grind forever the mats yourself.

I've picked herbalism and alchemy. Should I change alchemy over to mining or skinning then?

It's a good combo imo. Alchemy will give you flasks that last for 2 hours instead of 1 hour if you decide to raid at lvl 85 :)

But 2 gathering professions will generate more gold.

Remember you won't make much from gathering professions during levelling up but at lvl 85 you can probably make about 1k gold for every 45min of grinding.

Tailoring seems somewhat lacking... the cloth trader only sold one pattern i was interested in (pantaloons for my priest) and the one for enchnated spellthread(s) that I can sell for ... some gold.

I don't think I want to invest in belt/other stuff patterns. Prices seem a bit low for the effort involved on my server.

It depends what your objectives are. If you just want to make money then yes change alchemy for another gathering profession - you'll makes tonnes of cash but you may find it a bit boring as you never actually get to make anything. My experience of being an alchemist is that it will cost you more money than you'll gain from it, but hey it's more fun getting those skill-ups and I am on an RP server...
