EDIT: I's Ax 850 Gold, sorry for the mistype in the title.

Hi, just gor parts for first build, but must ask a few questions about the PSU.

Firstly...The 24 pin connection to the motherboard is fine, as there is only one cable, BUT for the 8/4 pin motherboard connection, there are two cables, both on the motherboard end have an 8 pin that you can split into 4, but the end that goes into the powersupply has an 8 pin and the other is a 12 pin. The 12 pin doesnt seem to fit anywhere, so im gessing the 8 pin is used, but just checking. Dont want to fry anything.

Secondly...some of the longer SATA cables have 4 sata connectors on. Should you only use one of these, or can you run, say, 4 SATA devices of one cable? Doesnt seem likely, but... And the same with the molex ones.

Thanks in advance!

You can easily run 4 devices off one cable.

I don't know of any motherboard connection that uses a 12 pin connector. What's on the other end of the lead? A 8 pin perhaps? PCI-E connectors (6+2, 6)?

No, I know what all the other cables are and have even fitted and tried some, it's just those two. It has a 12 pin connector into the POWER supply, not to the motherboard, if you thought I meant the other way around. Both cables have the 8 pin that can be split into 4 to plug into the motherboard. If that's the cass. If you knew what I meant, then the 8 pin on both ends should be right. Hmm. Thanks for the info so far!

The 4+4pin is made as a two x 4 pin connector as older motherboards only had 4 pin power connectors for the CPU.

That is what the 8 pin power port is for on the motherboard - you are fine with plugging that in.

Also using all your SATA devices on 1 single cable is fine, and importantly - good for cable management.

Hmm, I don't think im making myself clear..it's the plug at the other end, that goes into the power supply. The power supply comes with two 8-pin mobo plugs, it even states it in the book, only on the power supply end, one has eight pins and one has twelve. THAT is the dilema. Not sure which to use. Doesnt say in either book/manual.

I think you are making yourself perfectly clear. Unfortunately I don't know the answer from memory, but this question has been answered before, even on this forum, so I suggest doing a google search or a search of this forum, and somewhere in the mass of the internet will be an answer.

Does the 12-8 pin not go in the 12 pin part of the 24 pin plug (on the PSU) and its for certain motherboards that do not have the standard 24-pin power connector???. I'm using the 4+4 that seems to be the one to use.

edit: just looked at my cables and the 12 pin part only has 4 pins in anyway and it must go in one of the PCI power slots (on the PSU) dunno what its for though.

It turned out to be the 8-pin one, just from the fact I couldnt find a conceivable way to use the 12pin. Thanks for your time anyways. Stupid pins. Thanks.
