Cooper S - three months on.

the missus wants me to ditch the Lupo for one of these, and to be honest, I cant think of any bad things about it!

whats the mpg like on the R53?

24-28mpg depending how you drives it.

Doing my work journey and back I normally get about 25 :)

Had an R53 myself for 2 months now, quite pleased with it so far, don't even miss my Z4MC ... well too much anyhow.

Been thinking of buying a Focus ST but now starting to consider a few other options. Think I might have to test drive one of these now :)

What's the overall consensus on the supercharger vs. turbocharger versions?

I have one of each on my driveway, for sheer fun = R53. The R56 is more refined imo. (Cybershot can give a better idea on the pros of the R56)

My one biggie with the R56 is the interior, you can't have an aftermarket HU etc

I've had an ST3 and the R56 is more similar than you would think tbh, certainly in terms of power delivery and overall feel. As far as the R56 goes over the earlier model you probably need to drive both as they are very different cars and appeal to different types of people, the R56 feels a much more refined grown up version than the previous one at the expense of the go kart handling and overall fun factor according to some.

Back to the ST comparison though. Upsides over an ST, mpg 30+ rather than low 20's, funkier interior, more chuckable, good residuals, lots of jcw goodies if you fancy them.

Downsides are short wheelbase which means it can get very unsettled on bad roads and hates potholes, needs the sport button to get the best from it, to get it to ST3 equiv spec inside needs lots of optional extras - leather, sat nav etc so can push the price up. Plus you need to be able to live with the obvious hairdressers comments from some of course. Nowhere near as practical either as an ST as room obviously very limited in the back with the front seats pushed back and boot is pretty minimal..

MPG on the R53 is rather bad I think.. hence why I have only managed 26K on a 55reg.. :)

But its also probably more to do with me driving it like a mad man.. :D

If theres one thing I love about my R53.. it's getting in it and feeling like a 10 year old.

so.. post from the old days..

So who still got there Cooper S?

I do.. :)

Yep, still got mine and no plans to change it any time soon.

Had Koni FSDs and Eibach springs fitted recently to replace the coilovers I had previously (which were bone shattering). Also got 15% pulley, Dave.F filter and strut braces. No plans for any more mods to be honest, it's just perfect now so don't want to ruin it with loud exhausts or anything.

Im not really a fan of these new style mini's as ive always liked the original 60's version. But I must say it does look dam good with the black grill and new wheels :D

Still got mine as well, over 4 years now.

Which coilovers did you have eidolon?

Meister R

They're far too hard for road use in my opinion. I've had plenty of "sporty suspension" cars in the past (Elise 111R, MR2 on 18s and coilovers, Porsche on 19s etc) but they all retained an element of comfort whereas the Meisters were a step too far for me. I winced everytime I drove over the smallest of bumps so I had to get rid of them.

Jerrick at Meister was brilliant though, gave me 80% of my purchase price back which was more than fair I thought.

Thanks for this. I was under the impression these are very good and adjustable to be very soft or hard as you wish.

Is your current set up better than the standard by much?
