Looking through all the benchmarks it appears at first glance the big name games would would see a big improvment.
But these benchmark tests are run uber resolutions that frankly my monitor couldnt do if it dreamed it!

Running games like Bad Company 2 ect seems pretty much spot on and i cant imagine there is any currenty need to crossfire?
MY only concern if i dont buy now is that im going to miss out of the unlocked shader business as the rumor mill suguests ATI are already plugging this one on newer batches.

Currenty system
i7 rig, running at 3.2ghz
6gb ddr3 mem at 1800mhz
PSU is a 850w be quiet (which i assume would support another 6950 unlocked over powered card?)

im seeing silly fast fps with my 6950xfire cards
if you have the money now and are thinking about it, id get another before its too late

Why would you need to xfire 6950s if you are only playing at 1080p. Save your money and buy a 79** series cards when they come out in December

:D
Well ive already gone and got one 6950 and flashed it to the 6970
So am i going to notice any differance by getting a second!
Although im unsure as to what size monitor people use as mine is 24"ws and only supports upto the 1920*1080! lol

BC2 is quite easy on graphics cards imo.

I went from a single 5850 to crossfire 5850s' and there was little difference, maybe a tad smoother but that could be my imagination.

This is on the same resolution as you have.

I would just keep the 6950/70 as it is fine for your resolution.

Only the big hitters will benefit ; Metro 2033, Crysis with full eye candy etc

You do not need to crossfire, mine covers metro at 1900x1200, if you have the spare money then hold onto it, wait to see if any other games come out that will test it, current games, there is no need. You are far better off waiting for the next gen and swapping to a single card, your 6950(70) should hold its value ok. Main problem to my mind is that consols are holding graphics back a bit as they are old hardware now, next gen of consols should mean a leap forward but for now it isnt profitable to make games really really shiny as the main money is in less graphically powerful consols.

As always guys thanks for the advice.
Going to stick to using one and as people say possibly in 12 - 18 months time there may be another solid card that would make me sell the current one
Rather than waiting 12 months before the CF actually become of use!

I'm in a fortunate situation where I'm building a rig for my brother as well as upgrading my own. So I'm planning on buying 2 6950s (one for him and one for me) and then by next year, we'll have a choice: take the other 6950 or upgrade (I'm going for the upgrade, he can crossfire).

Trouble is that I'm looking to upgrade to a 3x24" monitor set up by the end of the year...

When mine starts struggling, I plan on picking up a second hand 6950 or even a 70 to keep it going a while longer. By that point, I doubt there will be much price difference between the two.

I keep thinking about getting another 6970 myself but know i dont realy need it for 1900x1200, i would be better off droping the cash on a solid state drive

hahaha i'm running at 1080p, don't think i'd be too happy going to a single card as running maxed out settings for the best possible visuals and peace of mind that I will get always smooth high minimum frames feels so nice. Haven't felt any urge to overclock them yet, its not required but I will eventually just for the hell of it.

However If you are happy with the frame rate and visuals you are getting with a single card then you can wait for the next gen.

more like 8-10 months

I have 2 flashed 6950s in CF for 2560x1600 gaming. I expect them to eat Crysis 2 at this res too :D

Very very nice combo though, will last a looooooooong time

Same res and cards - I have unlocked the shaders and clocked to what CCC will allow by default. Then I have used RBE to drop the voltage :D Fixed Fans to 30% for gaming (quiet) and happy with the performance.

Flashed to 6970 @ 950/1450 I get 110 fps in Heaven @ 1080p but with around 45% fan @ 80c .... with the above settings I get 98fps so worth it to quieten them down.
