Hi all,

Up until now I've been happy with my BenQ FP241W 24", but it now seems like this is in the process of crapping out, since I have faint vertical grey lines in the middle of the screen..

So.. before it bites the dust completely - I've decided to get a new monitor.

Here's my main wants:

Primary use is gaming, but I appreciate having a sharp image for office, viewing photos and browsing. Won't be watching films as I link my TV up for that, also won't be doing any movie editing or design work.

24" (or 23.6" as I know a few are).

Ideally 1920x1200, rather than 1920x1080 (don't want to lose the space)

Max ~£450 price, but obviously the cheaper the better.

These are the main two I'm currently considering:

Any thoughts and help would be gratefully received. Thanks all :D

For £450 the Dell is your only option from OcUK. That Benq is not 16:10 as it seems, unfortunately that 16:9 is now the norm. I've been looking around and there is next to nothing on the market in a 24" 16:10 monitor.

Off the top of my head there's the Dell, a Fujitsu one and probably something from NEC. The trouble is the 16:10's are more the preserve now of professional monitors and as such they can get pretty expensive.

You can get the HP for £312 to £320 if you look about. Think they're EOL'ing it by the looks of it so once they're all gone that might be the last you see of them. Great monitor if you're prepared to get it calibrated.

What about the refresh rate? Does 120hz make a massive difference?

Unless you game SERIOUSLY competatively online then 120Hz shouldnt be your main priority.

If you want your games to look as visually stunning as possible then the 60Hz IPS panel on the Dell U2410 is the one to go for.

I have the U2410 and when gaming online I set the monitor to "gaming mode" which reduces the latency of the panel to appox 14ms with no detectable impact on visual quality.

Indeed it is an expensive monitor...but you get what you pay for same as anything else.

I'd go for the Dell U2410 at that price as well.

The only reason to go 120Hz would be for 3D.

A good friend of mine has the BenQ, and it does come with all the reported problems - pretty inaccurate colours, quite serious banding and quite hefty backlight bleed. Not worth the £300 price tag if you won't be using it for 3D.

Edit: Be sure to check what revision OcUK's stock is. I know a certain other website have Rev A05 stock for about £460.
