Protests in Luton by two opposing groups will result in the largest police operation in the town's history.
Police said they were planning their largest ever operation to deal with a protest organised by the English Defence League for next month.
Because a counter demonstration is planned by the Unite against Fascism group on the same day, police are expecting up to 12,000 protesters.
A spokesman said at least 1,500 officers will be on duty on 5 February.
Chief Supt Mike Colbourne said the eyes of the world would be on the town but his officers were prepared.
Leader of Luton Borough Council Hazel Simmons said the public should go about their normal business on the day despite the size of the protes

Apparently the EDL are planning on going straight for a mosque with the intention of destroying it, the counter protest's plan is to stop them at the train station if possible and to stay near the mosque if that fails.
Well I'm fairly sure the Police will protect all religious buildings heavily due to who the EDL are.
Also I didn't realise there was a counter protest also, sounds just like the situation in Egypt at this moment in time, one group protesting for what they believe, the police trying to maintain order and another group coming in to have a fight...
