Hi peeps! Its been a while since i last posted on this forums...so much has changed ;S

Anyways, straight to the point.

Ive just made a big upgrade from my Q6600 / 4GB ram / p6n32e SLi Plus setup to the setup described in my sig mainly for a huge boost in video editing / encoding. I didnt bother upgrading my gpu since i didnt find any real need. (This gpu is really good for this generation of games anyway, in my opinion)

Its the first real upgrade ive done myself...its more or less a new PC now. Im quite impressed with the results so far, everything is faster at just about everything.

I have been doing some video editing with it and when encoding, i noticed that the asus program was warning me that the temperature was going above 65 degrees and after 5 minutes of encoding, it was even reaching 90 degrees...that's worring me.

I have attached pictures of my rig as it is now. It might just be my messy cabling setup hahah. I have about 3 extra fans on the case itself (one at the back, one on the side and one in the front but the door covering the on switch us usually semi-closed...figured this didnt matter since there is quite a big gap under the door and between the hinges and side). But I was wondering, is it normal for this CPU to reach such high temperatures when it is under such processing / stress? If not, are there any good cooling solutions I can use to get the temperatures low? I have been considering a Corsair H50-1 but perhaps I am overworried n need a slightly better fan?

Another quick question, would it be possible to remove some fans if I was to get a better CPU cooler? I dont know why this system had so many fans in the first palce...perhaps that ebay seller I bought this from was over obsessed with rotation (too much naruto? ;p)

Any elite expert advice from all of you pros will be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Number 1 as to be zip tie the cables and clean them up.
H50 is ok but you may as well just get a £30 air cooler. THIS one will do just as good as the h50

firstly as already said you really need to get those cables tidied. the soprano isn't a hard case to get fairly tidy.

secondly are you going to be overclocking the cpu at all ? if you are not then even one of these - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-028-CM&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395 will vastly outperform the stock cooler and lower the temps by quite a lot.

thirdly from every review i have seen of it the corsair a50 is a decidedly average cooler, it can do the job competently but there are much better coolers at around the same price.

Heheh, i guess im not really surprised that the cable mess is causing bad airflow. Il try get down to that.

I have considered overclocking and am still considering it. I wouldnt mind that extra boost in speed but I would hate to lower the lifespan of the cpu (or is that really a risk these days?). Also, Im using 16gb ram (as u may have already noticed in my sig) but I need as much ram as possible. Doesnt overclocking involve removing ram? I got that impression by briefly looking at some other posts of people overclocking very similar setups at the expence of ram.

Thanks for all your help!!

After looking at all these recomended links, Im just about ready to get the akasa cooler ;o

Looks really huge though...but im sure it wont be much of a problem. a few quick questionns...

Id like to overclock but would it mean that I would have to take out some ram modules depending on how far i want o overclock?

I have a fan installed at the side of the case as u can see in the pics but would that fan still be neccessary after installing this beastly cooler? ;p

Thanks

I think you might have problems with a venom covering the first ram slot as you have tall ram as you use all the slots. But I could be wrong.

Could the problem be related to mounting the cooler? or is it an airflow problem? The front fan is at the bottom half of the case where those hard drives are.

woah....

I just got hold of one of these heatsinks and I must say...im quite surprised how huge this thing is...I see what you guys are talking about.I see that its got only one fan so there is hope for my ram right? Because I was thinking this could be used to pull air out through the back of the case while I use the fan on the side of the case (in the pictures above) to push air in. Do you recon this is a good idea? Or is it another catastrophe in the works ;S

Im definatly considering overclocking but I would like to have at least 12gb of ram (need as much ram as I can get) while keeping it cool with this giant cooler ;S
