My granfer has just finished tales of vesperia and he wants another game either for xbox360, ps3. Hes completed the following:

Tales of vesperia
Final Fantasy 1-13 except the online ones
Blue Dragon
Lost odyssey
Skies of arcadia

Is there any other rpgs like the above?

Your Granddad is so awesome :D

I think so too, hes up with me most nearly everyday. Me on my pc playing games and him sat on my bed playing his:)

Hes decided to start dragon quest (forgot to add to list) for like the 3rd time now. He just deleted his old saves of 221hrs it took him to finish it:eek::D

Atelier Rorona for something a bit different. Um, or White Kight Chronicles. I'd avoid Star Ocean 4, it's just terrible.

I quite enjoyed it, much better than 3 to me, a little creepy at times "Come on edgy lets have sleepy time" but bar that a decent game.

Jcb33.

Glad you enjoyed it but to quote a friend of mine on another forum when asked if it was worth buying:

Massive plot holes
ridiculous contrivances
vast swathes of the game that are completely pointless and do nothing at all to progress the story?
horrible intensely dislikeable characters who annoy you as they bore you
lots of emo whining and straight up stupidity

a lot of people will tell you the combat makes up for that, but it doesnt, it's a shallow button masher that gets more and more shallow the further you go.

I cannot argue with any of the above.

I though the combat in The Last Hope was far more enjoyable than other recent offerings this generation, it's hardly a terrible game, there are far worse offerings out there. Although i'll agree that the characters drove me nuts, but once you accept it's going to be full of anime stereotypes it's a good game.

As for my reccomendations

Mass Effect 1 & 2 - one of the most immersive story driven series of this generation.

Eternal Sonata - A bit of a missed gem imo, the combat is enjoyable enough, its very similar to Tales of Vesperia with the button mashing. It has some really nice scenery and environments as well.

Valkyria Chronicles - PS3 - Something different in terms of your traditional rpg, but definitely a must buy. It's a slow and methodical game, very much built around turn based strategy, more like a game of chess than frantic combat.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 - PSP - works surprisngly well on this platform, even if it is full of anime/manga cliches.

Demon Souls - PS3 - I've not played this myself yet, as i'm not really into the whole medevil/fantasy/demon setting, but it's supposed to be a fantastic game, and a definite challenge.

Far worse on what platform? I cannot think of one other RPG that is anywhere near as bad as SO4, except maybe Enchanted Arms. Obv it's opinions etc but it's a fact it's a poorly written emo ridden trainwreck.

Edit: Cannot fault your recommendations though, - Eternal Sonata,

Edit: Cannot fault your recommendations though, - Eternal Sonata,

Tbh of the well known titles i've played for the current round of consoles i'd probably rate them

1. Mass Effect series
2. Valkyria Chronicles series
3. Tales of Vesperia
4. Star Ocean TLH
5. Eternal Sonata
6. Fable 2+3
7. FF 13
8. Fragile Dreams

Never said TLH was a materpiece, far from it. I think anyone going into it expecting an oscar winning story is a grade a fool. As i said it's full of genre cliches and stereotypes, but i just took it was a pinch of salt and enjoyed it for what ti was. The characters in FF13 were just as emo, while they weren't as in your face annoying, they were far more wooden.

In comparison to stuff like FF 13 and Eternal Sonata, which really were button mashers, i found the combat in TLH to be far more engaging and active, especially when you could get to the stage where you could pull of chains of large attacks. That being said, i don't hold many of the battle systems of recent attempts in any high light, they're all button mashers at heart, as you reuse the same most powerful and cost effective attacks. the only games that i think break this trend are Mass Effect and Valkyria Chronicles, but then again they don't follow the same encounter monster scenario the others do.

On a side note on Fragile Dreams, while i rate it pretty poorly in comparison to other offerings, it's a nice little outing. The combat is poor and uninteresting but for it's short length it has a nice little take on a post apocalyptic world. Worth picking up if your grandfather has access to a Wii OP.

The Last Remnant for the Xbox 360 or even PC. Not as good as it should have been, but the battle system is turned-based and very tactical.

For some classic SquareSoft oldies, Front Mission 3 and Vagrant Story PSOne Classics are avaliable on the PSN Store for PS3.

I think Eternal Sonata is the only one he will get one with, the combat looks too quick and complex for him.

I found eternal sonata's combat a bit too quick by the end of the game myself and wouldn't recommend it.

The jrpgs he likes are the same ones as me so I'd recommend:

The Last Remnant and Magna Carta 2 both for the 360. He'd seriously love both of them.

When he's done with them Enchanted Arms is great and has some good tactical turn based combat.
