I've got a second system for retrogaming which is an xbox (1) with a hard drive upgrade and a bunch of emulators on it. I play arcade, Amiga, N64 and xbox titles like Halo and GTA. The xbox is running in prog scan mode and I've got a HD Box Pro which does a pretty nice job of converting the output to VGA. There are a lot of adjustment options on it to cater for colour/contrast etc.

I'm looking for a 4:3 montor to go with it, and have seen a few on eBay. My choices seem to be between an older high end model and a newer budget model. One thing about older models is the response times tend to be 20ms. I think this will be good enough but would I see a big difference with a newer 5ms model on the types of games I play?

Example on eBay is a NEC Multisync 19" with an IPS panel which would be nice for colours but it's 20 or 25ms. Would a cheaper TFT at 5ms be a better option?

the faster the response time the less lag in games, and if you play the xbox then i can say you definately need a better response time than 20ms, i would go for the new bugdet model with less response time to improve the game play and have your shame factor reduced

Cheers mate. I just found a 19" screen on eBay locally which has built in speakers and 8ms so that might well do the trick. Some of the older dells I was looking at are a lot worse on response time.

Bear in mind that 4:3 is actually quite rare in medium sized TFTs. Even before the current widescreen craze, there were a lot of narrowscreen (5:4) 17"/19" screens around running 1280x1024. To get 4:3 you often had to drop to 15" or go up to 21".
