Antec truepower new modular 650w, heard its good but its not the most recent guy on the block. I also heard its quiet, which i would like, but i dont know if these claims are legit. Im replacing a corsair tx650w, and my other consideration is antec high current gamer 620w. Im hoping to get this sorted by tommorow. The truepowers price seems to have gone up by a massive amount? im sure its supposed to be about £75 ish, same as the other one.

Cheers

Whats the reason for replacing the Corsair.

The Antec from reports gets good reviews, but the price has increase quite a lot, it may be worth looking at the Corsair HX 650W which gets 5 or 7 years warranty and also is modular.

The corsair makes a constant ringing noise which is high pitched, like a dog whistle, but audible. It also makes more apparant noises during some menu screens in games and other stuff. I wanted to switch to antec because of their reviews.. is this a good idea?

Well if I was to get the truepower one, does it have an intake or outtake fan? Could the fan be placed downwards(I have a fan slot thing under where the psu goes)

Not sure why OCUK is so expensive for the True Power. Its not like there is limited stock, everywhere has them in stock. Its an intake fan btw, I have mine facing downwards

antec make great psu's. i would have no hesitation in using one in my own machine if i didn't have my seasonic x-650 :)

+1 Antec are very good, but I also am a massive seasonic fan, have three of them, one of which is now 5 years old, never missed a beat.

Does having the psu facing down affect the cooling or sound emission of the computer? Or is there not really any difference?

yeah, i have the hx620 which does this... tried changing it to a bequiet (probably wrong option), but that showed similar symptoms.

also found that the inteference transferred through my speakers as well as directly from the psu, but changing to an external usb dac sorted that out.

Too late, i ordered it in today and it will be done on tuesday :)

let us know if it solves the squealy noise problem.

My PSU is a Corsair TX650, never had noise trouble but it stiopeed working yesterday, smelt a burnt smell, so immediately safely shut down my pc, it must be done for as computer won't switch on at all now. Strange that another PSU makes the noise for you as well.

My GPU makes a different noise, kinda whiny when it starts up but thast only last for aeround 1 minute, then it makes a soft, smooth noise (XFX 4890 1GB).

Yeah its all the time, but im positive its the power supply because even when ive turned the computer i can hear the noise. Its also when i run some applications (Windows Chess being one of them..haha) it makes a different sound, whining which ive seen videos of graphics cards making. Im not really sure what to do now though.

As for scop that sounds pretty bad? if the psu has gone then theres possibilty its whiped out other bits too.
