After my Sony Xperia X1 disappointed me mostly due to it's crappy keyboard, I'm ready to upgrade again, going to be android this time ofc.

Which HTC phones are considered the best now? Looking around I can see the HTC Desire HD at £22pm on a 24m contract, but are there other HTC phones to consider?

Why HTC?

Nexus S :)

I've just always known them to make the best types of phones.

What's the main difference between the Nexus and Desire? I see it has a smaller screen and lower resolution camera/video recording. At £26.86pm it's also a lot more expensive.

Because they are well built and not fashioned from nasty plastic.

I'd disagree with that, I have 3 HTC phones and a Nexus S.. there is no real difference in build quality.. and the S has a lovely glass front :)

Better GFX subsystem, better screen and no reliance on waiting for HTC to get their SenseUI skin working on the new versions of Android (I'm still bitter that it took so long to get an update for the Hero).

One thing I have noticed with the S vs the Hero, is that the call quality is MUCH better with the S. Not just the volume, but the mic pickup, the processing (doesn't sound as compressed etc) - that's using both phones in the same areas/rooms over a period of time.

See above. And almost certainly out of his price range if he is looking at £22 a month phones.

Not really.. little bit more; for £25 a month (+£50 for the device) you can get a Nexus S on Orange (300 mins Any Network Anytime + Unlimited Texts, 500MB Data)

Yes or there is another on t mobile.

600 Minutes, 500 Texts, 500 MB Data £25 a month with the phone free.

If i where you wait for a month.

From next month 12 MONTHS contracts are back. 24/18 months contracts are getting scrapped by OFCOM and EU rules.

;)

I wouldnt get too excited, they will simpye offer the 12 months contracts to comply with legislation, but they will be so expensive nobody will choose them.

100% will happen IF the EU are actually enforcing a 12month contract (sounds like boulderdash to me!)

So glad il be on £10 pcm rolling 1 month from next month!

hopefully competition from competitors will help lower contract prices

It won't really help, phones are pricey and the cost of them is usually subbed by the contract, there'd be no margin to lower them much. The contracts will be the same value they are now, just over 12 months

12 Month contracts always result in considerably more money upfront and/or monthly (see iPhone 4 on Tesco).

24 months is way too long for a contract . glad that 12month contracts are coming back.

Its not like you are FORCED into a 24 month contract, most places offer 18 month ones and then you can always buy the phone outright and get a SIM deal of some kind.
