So define how you arrive at the ethnicity. For the US there is a very clear dividing line, that line is not so clear in the UK. What is the difference between English, Welsh and Scottish? Also, as I am English, Irish, Welsh and a bit of Scottish, does that mean I am not English? If not, what am I?

I assume then you would have no problem with someone who had an English mother and a black father from calling themselves English? After all they have 50% English blood which is more than enough for a native american, for example.

The statistics released by the Met are for BLACK MALES. And even if they were counting the whole, the number of women shooting/stabbing people to death would be insignificant.

That doesn't really answer the question though as the section on English ethnicity is somewhat confused and the section on English nationality in parts directly contradicts your stance.

Are you honestly suggesting that to be English you need some connection to the Anglo-Saxons? If so, can you prove that you have it? I am certainly not sure if I can.

Also, where does this leave someone with one English parent? Are they English?

You are honestly trying to tell us that during your time in school there wasn't any fights, rival 'gangs'/groups or general conflict whatsoever? Really?

I suggest that you're either 'forgetting' or need to get the rose tinting of your spectacles bumped down a notch. Groups of hormonal adolescent males have always 'clashed', and they always will. Add this eventuality with some 'questionable' parenting (although do bare in mind that these kids do not necessarily come from a completely dysfunctional households with 'bad' parents), areas of high crime/low opportunity, crap education and cultures that feels as if it is marginalized and you've brewed yourself a bit of a ****-storm where people do get shot, stabbed and beaten up over foolishness.

It'd depend a lot on why I was moving there and what other advantages & disadvantages the area offered, but I see your point - I'm happy to admit that being an ethnic minority (presumaby what you were after, correct me if I'm wrong) would count as a disadvantage when weighing up, and this could be seen as a level of inherent racism instinctive to us all. Of course it would - it's a bestial instinct to stick with your own. It's also a sad fact that minorities are, by the actions of the intolerant, more likely to be the target of violence and abuse, as their differences contribute additional potential for being targetted. I don't really see how the point helps, though - not only are the reasons for this inclination, if not bred by then at least heavily inclusive of a more savage instinct to drive off the invaders, but we as a species are supposed to have evolved beyond such animalistic tendencies. How does fear of those without the self-awareness to do so justify bigotry?

The wonders of linkable quoting - I'm still lamenting the loss of his clams that the radiation in the Van Halen's [sic] belt is an obstacle to space travel, but this probably would have replaced it anyway :p
