I was just browsing parkers as you do and as I saw a nice 120i today in th gym car park I thought i'd look them up and I was quite surprised at the spec but also found it a little odd

It says its a four cylinder petrol that is 167BHP with 155 lb/ft but returns 42MPG combined, just seems odd for a 4 cylinder NA 2.0 engine and the tax band is only G, all this and a 0-60 time of 7.5

Is it me is that a very good all round paper spec for a 2.0 NA engine?

Has anyone driven one and are they revvy and fun to drive or is it a case of look good on paper but not great on the road

If you think thats a good on paper spec for a 2.0 N/A 4 cylinder, what do you think of the 330i Coupe?

39.7mpg combined. 271bhp.

I had a 320i once for nearly 2 months, from brand new. Personally I hated the engine.

if you think that's impressive you should see the specs for the 330i

268 BHP
38 MPG
5.8 0-60

The Efficient Dynamics range of petrol engines BMW make are superb and its real shame everyone just looks at the headline mpg figure and buys a diesel as its making it difficult to find these 2nd hand

The 120i is a good little car if not a little pricey for what it is for fun you want the 130i

:edit should have known fox would beat me to it:

I really really love the idea of the 330i. A lot of me wants one just because I admire the engineering side of it so much. Although this is an odd reason to pick one over a 335i I guess.

It just seems like such a 'Have your cake and eat it' car.

Is the 130i a six cylinder engine? Even if it isnt its impressive I cant believe it does nearly 40mpg thats quite amazing

What did you hate about the 2.0? If I remember rightly you dont like revvy 4 cylinders ala Type-R etc. If thats the case i'd more than likely love it

I drove me daughters today, bit gutless but its alright. Hers is 170 so Fox tells me and an auto, its a refined little car as far as it goes.

Ah thats easy enough, cheers

I'd have to have a go of one as i'm still impressed at the spec but I was more curious than anything else at this point, the one I saw looked really nice, the car sat perfectly over the wheels and it was totally standard but stood out in an understated way. I also love the seats in my mates BMW and they were same seats I think

Does the 330i actually managed to achieve 39mpg+? Or has BMW rather brilliantly found a way to do well in the emission tests? Everyone i've talked to about it, including the nice BMW salesman the other day, has said it's the latter.

In my experience the N53 engined cars are roughly 20% more economical than the M54 engined equivilents in any given circumstances.

This is comparing an N53 engined E60 with my M54 engined E39, so a reasonable enough test.

I believe it can. Im averaging 32mpg in my 335i after nearly 2 months.

I reckon the 330i could hit 39ish

Mind, my 530d did average 37... :)

Wow, really?

Are you finding it routinely does almost 40mpg on your Motorway trips now?

I find your figures intruiging as every other 335i owner appears to drive everywhere at 155mph therefore gets 20mpg combined.

I know, i dont know why the other owners find it so hard. On e90 post I have found 2 or 3 others with 335i's doing similar though.

I dont make a point of driving to save fuel in any way yet it is at 31.something on the average since I reset it doing the fill up test. Im very happy obviously!

Like I said above though, my driving style got 37 in the 530d.. it just doesnt add up!
