Hey guys,

New build up and running, stable, cool and very fast compared to my old P4!

I haven't installed the graphics card yet though, as when examining my PSU before purchase I mistook an 8pin for a 6 pin :(

This means I only have one of the two 6pins I need to power my HD6870, so of course I'm looking for an adapter! What's the best choice?

Quick google bought up options of 2x 4pin molex to 6 pin/8pin to 6pin adapter - is there a better choice than any listed? And which of two I listed is the best bet?

Kind regards,
Cookeh

Are you sure your power supply doesn't have a 6+2 connector? (I.e. an 8 pin with 2 detachable pins)

Doesn't even have an 8pin.

Means I've had to power mobo with 24pin and then a 4pin 12v rail instead of the 8pin! (Manual says its ok but you know . . . )

erm, im not able to PM you but add me on steam @ youngfinney and ill put a couple in a jiffy bag on monday. will need your adress etc

NZXT 6 Pin to 8 Pin VGA Cable 250mm CB-8V
might help

Wrong way round :p Need female 8pin ;)

Guitarman0, its a 460W Cooler Master eXtreme -something--something-.

It's rated to around 440W, believe it has 80% efficiency - it's not bad, just lacking in adapters!

Is it this one http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=3686

If so that's only rated for 26 A (312 W) on the +12 V.

Depending on what else your running that HD6870 could take it over that on high end tasks.

If you find out the system is within the 26 A limit, what you would need is this.http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-018-AK&groupid=1929&catid=153&subcat=

Yep its that one. You know how it says "CPU 4+4 Pin" is that effectively the 8pin that should be plugged into my mobo?

eXtreme Power reckons it will only draw 371W @ 90% load if cpu is at stock:

How would I go about finding out if system is within the 26A limit?

Yes

Still, you are pretty close to your limit on that PSU. If I were you I would still be looking at an upgrade.

Sorry, I am not sure about the 26A limit though.

Ah, better get that sorted then! And yes, I am close.

Trying to find the money for a new PSU - but think its about 1 and a half months away (I won't get next paycheck till 22nd of March!)

Got some stuff going up for sale soon anyway, see what the rewards me with.

You shouldn't need any help picking the right psu if you have been paying attention over the past few weeks, I am sure you can make the right choice yourself now.
