Im really temped to go for this card as it looks a real bargin but these things are stopping me from buying it.....

will it fit in my Antec 900?
hows the temps and is the card loud, as I cannot change the cooler for a better one very easy, as I have cerebral palsy. My 3870 temps are very acceptable at 37-43c idel and about 70-80c load. But my 3870 was the loudest thing in my pc until I modded the fan speeds bios. I quite liked the "msi 6950 2gb", as this card has a decent cooler, but the 480 is a much faster card with a lower price tag?

Fits in my Antec 902 lovely old job.

Its fairly quiet at stock, once you start clocking noise levels can go up a touch but its not too bad.

Have a read through this:

Im 99% sure it will fit in your case no problem.

If the 480 is loud is down to each user, when i had a 480 i found the card to be ok with noise and heat,of course a decent case with decent cooling with help massively.

Performance wise, overclock to 850 mhz and the card is a beast especially for the money ocuk are charging for one.

hey, if I could fit a 6950 (which is pretty long) in my Antec 200 case, then I think you can pretty much assume the gtx 480 will fit in your antec 900

Well Ive browsed through that thread and theres mixed reviews about the heat from the card. I wont be overclocking but hoping to keep the card for 3+ yrs or so and if idle and load temps are too much on the warm side, the card wont have a long life span, so I dont know?

Why won't the card have a long life span?

It'll hit 75-80c at stock speeds, that's nowt and never has been. Hell 95c is fine.

3 year warranty too.

More heat thats produced the shorter life span it will have untill things start failing? But I guess if the idel temp is under 50 and load is 80-90c that isnt too bad, as it will be running at idel temps more then load temps anyway.
3 year warranty, excellent if it dont cost a arm and a leg to send to the manufactures

Edit: plus if the card runs hot now, just think how hot it will run come the summer months. Anyhow 70-80c are about my 3870 load temps, so dont know why Im worrying if thats the load temps of the 480.

Mine is yet to go over 87C with a fair overclock on (still on stock volts so far, though).

Fan's not had to work above 64% to attain that, either, so it looks like there's still headroom and the fan will just spin up more if necessary to keep the temps under 90C. Only ran Heaven (albeit with high AA and AF) and Just Cause 2 so far, though, but at the moment I am definitely in the camp believing the noise and heat levels not to be major issues, at least with this version of the 480.

Whats the 480s idel temp and fan speed?

Mine idles at 70C because I have two monitors attached and it doesn't clock down to 2D speeds. Still only 39% fan for this, though, which is perfectly fine.

If I disable the 2nd display to enable it to clock to 2D speeds the temp drops to 45-47C-ish.

Thats a bug I guess if 3d gets enabled with 2 screen setup. When I had a 2 screen setup my 3870 temps increase by about 3c.

I think I will take the plunge and go for 1, ummmm.:p

I thought it was a bug at first too, but I've also heard it said that it's a design feature because with the more graphically-intensive modern OSes, 2D clocks can cause flickering on the desktop and in 2D apps over two monitors.

It is a bit of a pain, though. My old 4870 also idled at at similar (slightly lower) temperature because it wouldn't clock down when overclocked, so I'm kind of used to high GPU idle temps. Don't seem to be a problem, really.

Your not worried that always running at 70c might kill the card quicker then if its ideling at 40c? But I guess most ppl are not like me and keep their gpu for years tho:p

Nah, I don't think it should make any real difference, should it? 70C isn't hot by the standards of what the cards are rated to run at. I'll likely keep this card for a couple of years, and I'd be pretty shocked if it died because of a relatively high idle temp in that time.

The case should be fine. I haven't seen your mobo layout so if I were you I'd check that no SATA or other ports will get in the way.

EDIT: strumpusplunket has the same board. Durrrrrrrr for me:)

Its still wearing the card out quicker tho, as more unnecessary power is being pumped through it cos of the 3d mode being stuck on in the 2 screen setup. Plus your psu will be having to work harder and a few more pennies added to your electric bill.

It doesn't matter if the card is at idle or at full load 24/7. It has a 3yr warrenty so has to last 3 years no matter how hard you work it (barring mad overclocking ofcourse).

Thats very true:D.

But I wouldnt want my pc working harder then is needed, but thats me and Im fussy:p
