might as well ask on here before I pay the £70 to get it repaired

I've got a dyson dc05 absolute hoover which I've owned for 11 years.

It has been a great hoover for my household but slowly over time it started to turn off. So I cleaned the filter and then I cleaned the inside of the hoover as much as I could

(I did this after looking on dyson website about my fault) - not sucking properly and turning off.

The filter is clean but now the hoover just doesn't even turn on. It isn't the fuse btw.

what could be the problem? any help appreciated

Could be the lead. Leads on the dyson tend to stretch over time, the lead on my mum's 13 year old DC01 has been replaced twice since then.

Hoover is a great word. Doesn't make it any less valid because it's a trademark. Nobody says correctional fluid, they say tipp-ex. Nobody says acetylsalicylic acid, they ask for an aspirin.

11 years, great going if you ask me. Ye old bagged vacuums never used to last that long.

I have an Electrolux Bagged vacum here thats at least 20 years old, still works fine.

My mum swears by her Dyson, yet has had three in the time I've had the Electrolux Vac which was her old one! (I've had it about 6 years!) - Says it all really! :D

Why don't you get a new one? I know it served well, I also hate to get rid of things that worked well hoping that it can be repaired but if you keep on getting it repaired you'll end up spending so much money that you could have then bought a new one.

How often did that 11yr old Dyson get used :p

You'd have never thought it would last that long considering the amount of Dyson cleaners every 2nd hand shop seems to restock every few weeks!

Dyson do a good repair/overhaul service - my sister had her Dyson done under the scheme and loads was replaced, far more than the £70 she paid for the service!

lol I'm surprised you all think 11 years is a long time - to be fair it has sucked a LOT
we've the whole house rebuilt, hoovered the car umpteen times and it has been very reliable so far!

before this dyson I had a VAX that lasted 15 years!

Anyway I was thinking of getting a new one as well - I had this dyson repaired for a similar problem some 10 years ago - probably was the cable then too. but it had the warranty then!

It is £70 to get it repaired but to buy a new dyson it is at least £219 from what I've seen so far

time to make a decision!

If I was to get a new one which dyson would you recommend?

sometimes it got used 7-8 times a week
but on average I'd say 3-4 times a week for 11 years lol

I'm telling you I've never met a lady who could suck as good as my dyson
