Dyson hoover is dead

Dyson do a good repair/overhaul service - my sister had her Dyson done under the scheme and loads was replaced, far more than the £70 she paid for the service!

I don't full understand this

you mean to say they charged £70 but replaced a lot more than £70 worth?

lol I'm surprised you all think 11 years is a long time - to be fair it has sucked a LOT
we've the whole house rebuilt, hoovered the car umpteen times and it has been very reliable so far!

before this dyson I had a VAX that lasted 15 years!

Anyway I was thinking of getting a new one as well - I had this dyson repaired for a similar problem some 10 years ago - probably was the cable then too. but it had the warranty then!

It is £70 to get it repaired but to buy a new dyson it is at least £219 from what I've seen so far

time to make a decision!

If I was to get a new one which dyson would you recommend?

I found the Ball ones to be crap. My current one is an Animal but to be fair mine have died mainly because the dog has eaten them rather than given up through use...

Yes, like yours it was totally dead but while there they replaced the cord, the hoses and even one of the long lost attachments as well as changing the filter you cant clean etc - the engineer showed her the parts break down and it was lots more than £70.

Should be able to cut the flex back past the damaged part (almost always without fail where it goes into the appliance or plug) and reterminate it yourself pretty simply. I certainly wouldn't consign it to the bin for that!

thanks I'll get it repaired then - hopefully get 20 years out of it then!
and no didn't notice the multi button thanks

I've replaced a dyson flex myself, it was pretty simple actually, just unscrew the body remove the old flex and install the new one, there may be a little bit of soldering involved. You'll have to use a normal plug and not a moulded one and the colour may not be exactly the same (I used a bright orange garden equipment flex) but it'll work. Shouldn't cost you more than £10 or so and take 30 mins.

yeah iv seen dyson engineers driving around. it maybe worth phoning them
My brother is a Dyson R&D engineer and I wouldn't know that he worked for Dyson if I saw him randomly driving around, maybe you mean repair technician.

Sorry didn't mean to offend your Mrs! In future you should think of a more respectful name for the person that picks up your tissues and washes your dishes.. lol

sometimes it got used 7-8 times a week
but on average I'd say 3-4 times a week for 11 years lol

I'm telling you I've never met a lady who could suck as good as my dyson
which model did you get? or models? *** reads and avoids the ones u list

could I do that myself for less than £70?

5 in a row.

thanks....
but not even sure that the flex is my problem though because
should the hoover actually work when I change it - the problem of it overheating the turning off would still be there - so it might just be the motor as suggested before

Nobody says acetylsalicylic acid, they ask for an aspirin.

That's slightly different: Bayer lost the copyright to the name "Aspirin" as the end of WW1 as part of the war reparations. They also lost the rights to the name "Heroin" as well. See - don't say you don't learn stuff here.
