Hi its reaching that time of the year again for me, and lately ive had the snuffles and sneezing in the mornings my hayfever always comes Feb/March :(

But has anyone used Ionizers or Air purifiers and does it actually work ?

I found a website claiming they DONT here:

http://www.air-zone.com/

Says that Ionizers and Air purifiers dont work much at all and you have to get Ozone generators since they actually filter the dirt/dust and pollens and bacteria in the air ?

Any advise and my noise and eyes would appreciate it :)

Eat LOCALLY produced honey. It's supposed to sort of vaccinate you against the pollens.

Doesn't work for heavy sufferers, I'm afraid. Some may get something out of it but it's not done much, if anything for me. It's not only pollen that kicks it off either.

Ive always been sceptical of lonizers seems they were just quick gadjets promising to clean your air and perfect for hayfever sufferers...

Thats why I was intrigued by these so called Ozone generators, see them on ebay for 20-50 quid....

But I dont wanna waste money on a pointless plastic !

Local honey has never helped me did try it... while honeys good for you in other things it maybe cos I quit after 2-3 weeks.....

Thing is they advise hayfever sufferers to keep there windows/doors closed, yet in the morning me and my mum both have runny noses and itchy eyes for 2-4hrs sometimes whole day... I think its more house dust/dust mites possible ?

Very interested in this thread. My hayfever literally ruins my spring/summer. I dread leaving the house at any point for the fear of sneezing fits, or generally not being able to see where I am going.

ionisers sort of work, they certainly do knock stuff out the air, they leave a very dark heavy trail in front of them. But it requires keeping windows and doors shut and having several of them.

Hepa filter should work, as there filters are good enough. But never bothered with one, as again you need to keep windows and doors shut. So unless I can afford a hepa filter and an air conditioner it's a bit useless imo.

I get hayfever in the UK, and in Switzerland I get it the worst I've ever had. But in America I never get it, so it must be one specific plant.

I've found that being by the coast and getting sea-air helps a lot.

It's very much humidity dependant and also (but not as much) temperature dependant.

In the USA in very dry (non-humid) states - I found m hayfever virtually non-existant. This may be due to plants etc - but I personally think it was the humidity.

I dont think an ionizer specifically on its own would help.

I have recently purchased an Air purifier as I suffer from hayfever and minorly suffer from animal fluff.. aving the purifier on for a couple of hours when im out is fantastic. You can see everything that goes in.. then what comes out is so tiny. Just make sure it has a hepa filter, ionizer, and a timer of some sort.

I found a locally produced honey/pollen/royal jelly mix last year and it SEEMED to help, but it was quite late in the day so it could just have been the season tailing off. I will try again this year with the same stuff and see if it makes a difference.

Someone also bought me those LED things you stick up your nose, although I'm somewhat sceptical they had any affect.

I am currently having a battle with my other half saying she has hay fever now, shes refusing to admit it and claims its not hay fever. She suffers badly in the summer but not normally this time of year.

I bought last year a air filter/ioniser and was stunned to see the amount of micro dust in it, its like talc powder. So even if it doesn't directly help I am certain it indirectly improves the air quality. I'm thinking how to make a diy version with some PC fans and some quality filters.

Re plants, I suffer hay fever, although its been reducing in severity year on year for years. I am fairly certain its the oil seed rape thats not only my trigger but also the main irritant to me. Pre oil seed rape being grown in large quantities I suffered no hay fever as it became common I suffered badly, I can only hope I am becoming desensitised over time. I am told although have no idea if this is correct, that its banned in the US. Anyone else who has this as a main trigger should consider emigration ;)

Gross warning!
I saw a Tv prog aimed at children picking noses and eating it, and was it actually unhealthly. They claimed it wasn't unhealthy at all unless you had breathed in something nasty (which in fact would be a bigger issue), and also in fact that it could in theory help in the same way as eating local honey would to desensitise to local pollens since you would have collected them in your own nose....
Never quite got to the point to try it, even in really bad hayfever times, but someone may like to test it and report back ;)

Interesting stuff....

I still have read that website (link I provided in 1st post) that says ionizers are a bit of a con, and oddly checking on ebay all the ozon generators are saying similar things saying that ionziers dont really work but high end expensive hepa filter based air purifiers do work much better but there usualy industry ones found in hospitals/large offices.... looking at the price tags its not worth that lol

I think ill try for a 30 quid Ozone generator off ebay or the 10 quid battery operated mobile one.... just too see if theres any difference for now, and ill report back my findings cheers.
