My Golf - Update thread

Indeed they do, it's painful :(

Just drive into the back of one of them next time, that way they will realise you were on the serious business of making a video for a forum.

Sadly in my area i come across quite a few souped up 2 bob **** box cars roaring 2 feet from my bumper, it gets a bit depressing after a while.

Somewhere just before 1:34 (when it cuts) you must have driven past my house (just off the roundabout) - as those traffic lights are within sight of my house ;))

Sounds great from inside! :)

Any chance of a passenger ride some time!? :)

Sounds great Drexel, im still yet to see it.

Im sure ive seen your legnum about confused red with black kit?!

Cheers mate, was on my way to work. Presumably that was you in the yellow MX5? Looks

Lovely stuff. Makes a gorgeous sound even when not pushing on and especially nice when given some welly :)
I'm hugely hugely jealous. I hope I'm in a position to run one of these as well as a comfy barge one day.

Well in all honesty, being realistic my previous guestimates were probably over optimistic, it is still only an 8v after all, also my 'speshul' intake manifold will probably be holding it back a little.

All that in mind it'll probably be around the 140bhp mark, but it's hard to say as it's a pretty unique spec and there isn't much to compare it to.

It's not about absolute power though, it's a really 'fun' engine with loads of character, it has lovely throttle response and great mid-range pull.

I recognise those roads, they're the same ones my instructor took me on when I was learning to ride a bike. Haven't been over that way since passing but I'll have to go back, forgot how twisty they are.

It had been bugging me that the wheels were sitting too far in the arches and not filling them properly, especially at the rear. Ordered a set of 15mm hubcentric spacers to put them on the back and see what it looks like:

They are nice quality spacers, and came with longer bolts.

Here is one of the wheels before fitting the spacers:

And here it is after (not the exact same angle, but close enough to give you an idea):

Fairly subtle in those pics, but it's made a big difference to the stance, the wheels fill the arches much better than before without looking daft. The fronts won't need to come out as far, I'll probably put ~8mm spacers on the front. Hopefully it won't adversely effect the handling too much, I took it out for a bit of a drive after putting the rears on and it doesn't seem to have effected it, but I didn't get the chance to drive it that hard because the roads were greasy. Having said that, I'm fully aware that widening the rear track more than the front will increase understeer, but bear in mind I am running a whiteline rear ARB at maximum stiffness, so the car was already fairly oversteery at/past the limit. I'll see how it goes once I've fitted the front spacers, if it makes the car feel horrible I'll just ditch them all.

That aside, there is a little rubbing occasionally, I'll have to take a little from the arch lip with the ol' grinder.
