Hello,
Just thought I'd report back after my new build.
Only really had 20mins spare time, so didn't do much gaming (Bit of CS:S and TF2).
Team Fortress 2:
With my previous rig, I was getting an average of 20fps full config (so DX8, DOOM like appearance, no eyes or facial features).
Booted it up earlier, set graphics to high, 4x AA and trilinear. Joined a 24 slot server (populated with 12) on cp_gravelpit (my favourite competitive map, for those that care
).
I never saw it drop beneath 80fps (average was 120fps) - and I haven't even installed my HD6870 yet!
I'd completely forgotten about ragdolls as well, and I had a good laugh at some of them!
Counterstrike: Source
Similar story to TF2 with my old PC, averaged 25fps, often dropped beneath 15.
Set it up the same as TF2, and even higher frame rates! Lowest I saw was 74fps and for the most part was up in 120s.
Overall impressions:
I love high fps. It makes a massive difference to your aim and your game play, much smoother and more accurate.
It's put the fun back into gaming for me!
Now that I've seen what this rig can do with source games, I really want Wednesday to hurry up so I can put the HD6870 in and see what it performs like with more modern and intensive games.
CoD:WaW has long been a favourite of mine but I haven't been able to play it, now I can see many happy hours a head - its the same with Fallout: New Vegas, will finally be able to play it the way its meant to be played - in absolute beauty
