Purchased a few days ago, attempted to run it in:

AMD Phenom I 9950BE x4 @ Stock 2.7GHz
ASRock k10N78FullHD-hSLI Rev 3.0
Corsair Builders 600W PSU (CX600)
1TB + 500GB Hard Drive

Windows 7 64Bit (Fresh install, retail disk)

Now, ran smoothly for maybe an hour tops. I kept a record of the temperature, never above 73 degrees celsius, I can thank the cooler for that I guess.

First thing's first, install card, why's there a black border around my screen? *goes to google fixes it etc. etc.

Second thing's second, why's the text kinda blurry?(I never managed to fix this) This was especially noticable on the Steam UI, and very much so compared to my old card.

Third thing's third, weird things happen when I drag windows around, which I assume is accelerated by the graphics card.

Loads up black ops:

Oh, wow, that's something I guess.

Let's go on youtube and find out what's going on.. what's this? display driver malfunction?

Hmm.. *tries again* - BSoD..

To make sure I didn't destroy my system accidentally when installing my new card, I reinserted my old 9800GT and proceeded to install it as if it was new

Videos work as intended, Games run smoothly(so to speak, else I wouldn't be hunting a new card down), Text on screen is crystal clear and sharp, Crysis doesn't decide on a whim to put black bordering, no trails when dragging windows around.

It's the card, I'm sure of it now.

But is it broken? Can I send it back for a replacement of the same card? Can I send it back, drop down a little more cash and buy a better card?

What Catalyst driver version did you install ?

What display are you using - monitor or tv ?

I take it motheboard drivers are up to date, as is windows & direct x ?

Latest (Downloaded from the AMD site 5/2/11

24" 1920x1080 monitor

Windows, DX, Mobo, everything, squeaky clean and up to date. I do this by instinct to reduce the number of variables which can cause problems.

And yeah, I was hoping to get a 6950 instead of this card, been reading some great things about it.

Will I have to pay another £10 shipping? :P

As for testing in another system, the only system available is a 2 core AMD (pretty much same specs otherwise, 9600 instead of 9800, and cheaper PSU)

I'm not sure it would fit, anyway.

Return it under DSR & pay the difference for another card.

Quite a few on here have had issues with the 5850 Twin Frozr cards, and there's been a couple of posts about the gtx 470 version as well.

Bad batch maybe ?

If the card is faulty, RMA - not under DSR and save on the postage fees. OcUK will be fine with giving you a full refund and will pay postage for sending faulty card back to them

Right.. thanks for the help.

What's the best value 6950 to get? I see that it's the same card as a 6970, does it OC well? will my 600W corsair do fine?

Well if you modded it the warranty would be a little irrelevant, no?
Yes it would be irrelevant with the modded bios, but you wouldn't do that, you would put original bios back in and lock it.
In the unfortunate event you need to RMA your card you will need this command to re-lock the EEPROM after putting the original BIOS back on, otherwise someone looking could tell the BIOS was tampered with. Same as above, only "-lockrom". If you ran Wizzards 6970 WinFlash script your EEPROM would have been -unlocked without you knowing/noticing.

Well it really depends how it broke. If it is completely borked then asus probs wont try checking it. If the flash goes wrong then just go back to the locked bios by flicking the switch.

sounds like a classic driver issue to me, try them all mate, uninstalling with driver sweeper. THEN send card back or theyll jsut charge to send it out again
