hi ive been have a few problems with my MSI 580 gtx card recently and today i booted my pc only to see 1 side of the screen ok and the other side green (like artifacts)

now my thoughts where the card at first so i then switched it over for my trusty old 8800gt ..re-booted same problem:mad:

next i tried a new dvi cable ..same problem:mad:

tried in the other dvi port with 8800gt re-booted = perfect :D..
.switched back to 580gtx ..back to fooked up screen ..now both dvi ports dont work:mad:

next i try the hdmi port same fooked up screen:mad:

currently on my 8800gt via vga port

it looks like my 30'' dell 3008wfp is broke

what do you guys reckon caused it?

I'd be interested to hear replies to this. I've never known anything like this before caused by the GPU - possibly just coincidence that it happened on a relatively new graphics card. How long have you had the 580 for? Another possibility could be that it is corrupted display drivers causing this. Make sure the monitor is manually set to 2560 x 1600 at 60hz. Reinstall the graphics drivers. The kind of problem you describe can also be caused by internal problems in the monitor itself and it's not all that uncommon in high end LCD monitors such as that that have been heavily used for a few years. Usually last at least 3 years before that happens but they do run very hot.

yeh but it does this from boot up ..bios screen ect ive took some pics on my phone but i need to get my cable to upload them the card is getting RMA'D anyways but its sods law this happens before i get the chance

Well that rules out a problem directly related to the native resolution. And it works fine over VGA you say? A number of people have reported issues with the DVI-D ports of the U3008WFP in the past http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/p/19249766/19406954.aspx. Outright port failure would usually result in no image being displayed, though. The DVI signal could be getting scrambled inside the monitor itself due to a similar issue I suppose. As you can probably tell I don't know a huge amount about the electronics inside the 3008 ;).

yeh vga works fine, using it at the moment, i dont want to chance putting the gtx580 back in incase it wipes the last port i can use !
as you say it could be coincidence but tbh this looks very strange

Try plugging something else in to the monitor to see if the hdmi/dvi input on the monitor is buggered. Also check to see if the monitor has a factor reset and try using it if its available.

yeh i,ve tried another pc and the 3 ports are just the same
not sure if the monitor has a reset but i,ll check that out

thanks

I sometimes get the split screen with artifacts on my 3008 and HD5970 during bootup. Fine when Windows starts.....Never thought much about it to be honest.

If it's a Dell U3011 --> Menu - Other Settings - Reset All settings

There are a few complaints (if you google around) of this monitor going funky when using the Custom Preset - example here

Sorry just read your post again and see it's a 3008wfp and found a post claiming that older Nvidia drivers can corrupt the EDID data in the monitor - have a look here for the instructions from Dell on how to fix it - note that Dell no longer link to the file in question however if you google for 'Dell DVI Recover utility' you will find the zip file in the very first result returned. Please be aware that I cannot verify if this works or if it will fix your particular problem as I have neither the same monitor as yourself or the same graphics card but it sounds feasible and hey if it works you can just owe me a pint! :)

thanks for the advice
i,ve done a RMA so should have a new monitor by the end of the day

well recieved a nice u3011 as a replacement, ocuk found a fault with my card
still not sure if this caused the problem tho
i,ve decided to upgrade from the MSI 580gtx to the Gainward Phantom 580GTX
So all turned out good in the end:D

Thats really strange I get exactly the same thing happen on my girlfriends Dell 2408wfp with a 5770, but only when I am running 3DMark 06 it never happens on anything else.

The screen corruption looks identical to that but for me just turning the monitor on and off normaly fixes it.

Sorry forgot to add affter this screen corruption happens just rebooting the PC dosent fix it, if I just reboot the monitor stays exactly the same the only thing I have found that works is just switching the power off to the monitor for a few seconeds
