Halo 1 remake coming in 2011

I can't help but think it's too soon to remake a Halo game

I know, when i actually had it installed (need to get round to using Wine properly ;) ) Halo CE (both Combat Evolved and Custom Edition) were some of the most enjoyable games on my PC. And this was what, 10 years after it's first release?

Mmm I'm not to sure about this tbh. On the one hand it would look nice with a bit of an overhaul, but on the other hand is there a need. I still whip out my pc version every now and then to have a blast through the campaign, it still plays and looks as fun as it did back in the day.

Well this was inevitable, every character is either dead, floating in space or has sacrificed themselves for people who go on to fill options 1 or 2.

I really am getting very tired of Halo, the first game was great I will grant you, however it's only gotten fat and pretentious with age.

What gets me is that you can still play the original on a 360, meaning the only reason they are doing this is so they can stick it back on the shelves, I can guarantee right now it will cost full retail even though it's a 9 year old game.

Playing it on the 360 is horrible though. The framerate is bad and It's only 4:3.

I remember playing halo 1 and how much I loved it, also remember playing it on the xbox360 and how I could not tell what was an enemy or not!

I would have liked it on the reach engine and form bungie to do it but im still happy its coming atleast considering bungies relationship with microsoft now.

Awesome I'll never forget the first time I played Halo would deffo like to see this however I can see what cheets is saying bout leaving as a good memory!

Personally I'd like to think they won't mess this up so let's wait n see.

The point is you can still play it.

However if you guys are willing to spend another £30-40 on a remake of a game you can still play on your current console and buy for under a tenner, be my guest.

First FPS game to control well on a console. That's all I really remember it for, never thought much of the Halo games. 2 was the best maps wise for MP though...

One could say it's Halo that popularized regenerating health, in which case fuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

I remember it for being one of the first games with pretty brainy AI. Which we take for granted now

I wish we could take it for granted! Most games are so MP centric now, that we're lucky if we get a generic "pop into cover, pop out of cover, shoot, pop into cover" algorithm. Halo went a step above that, where enemies had proper behavioural patters (kamikaze Elites, Grunts fleeing in terror, enemies who actually work as a team, etc)

Halo has impressive AI even by today's standards, and considering the game saw its US release in 2001, that's not a good thing.

Really feels too soon for a remake to me. Still, could be good!

10Years is a pretty long time?

I am excited to play it on an ehanced engine; rumour is it's not Reach's which is interesting? Would make sense if they did 1&2 - not concerned about the MP mind, just would want to relive the story!

Yeah, they can't release Halo 1 remake as a full retail game. Having a seamless Halo 1+2 double pack would make a lot of sense.

Hell, Halo 2 might even be as good as what they promised back in the day. :p

I'm half and half on this. The first was just awesome, I enjoyed the story and loved the way the game worked (fishtailing warthogs are still my favourite vehicle control for a FPS to this day). I played it on the PC first and found it was one of the few games I was actually good at online! lol routinely held my own against everyone and came pretty high up each round. For these reasons I'd love a remake in HD on the 360

However...theres also a part of me that kinda thinks it should stay in the past where it is currently. It was a step forward for console FPS and online FPS in my book, things have progressed even more since then so you have to wonder if there's really a place for it now unless they plan to modify/update it to suit which may make it terrible :(

I didn't want to create a new thread so thought I'd ask this here, playing through Halo 3 atm and I'm finding that I have the same problem playing this that I did when it was first released - it's just pretty generic and boring

I've only done the opening Sierra 117 level so does it get better as the game goes on?

I've never played Halo 1 or 2 before so obviously story wise I have no clue what everyone is talking about but I dont think that would effect my opinion on the actual gameplay...

I've also got ODST and Reach waiting to be played, should I just give up on Halo 3 and start on one of those instead? From what I gather Halo 3 concludes the story from 1 and 2 whereas the other two have their own story lines do they not?
