Rift: Planes of Telera Beta

For all the criticisms aimed at this game. I have one thing to say about it:

At least Dwarfs look like Dwarfs.

Best. Dwarfs. Ever.

Fact.

/end useless post

Dwarfs look like dwarfs? Dwarfs don't exist - there is no real interpretation of a dwarf.

The dwarves in this suffer for the same reason all the other races suffer - horrendous animation.

In WoW and even WAR, dwarves look and move like short, stunty powerhouses, which seems right. In this they just bob along lightly like every other character model, not providing any indication of stockiness or weight.

I simply always compare dwarfs to gimli (gimly? sp?) If they don't look like him...they aren't dwarves :D

Anyone has the same feeling, that allthough the idea behind the game seems okay, but that the game will become boring VERY fast?

I mean:"Kill 10 trolls for their feet..*killing trolls for their feet*...Thanks,now go kill 10 trolls for their left hands..*killing trolls*...Thanks,here's your reward...Neighbour NPC:"Sorry, but can you go kill 10 trolls for me,i need their livers..."

We are 2011 for fukcs sake.

lol.

it is that whole 'clicking a button', 'repeated task' routine which we are meant to feel compelled to do cause we get a shiny reward at the end.

It has been the staple for MMO's since the beginning and looks set to continue cause, I guess, it works.

No wonder no one reads the quest text.

Tell that to blizard then. if you dont like it then mmo is not your thing at all.

Alternatively MMO designers need to put a little more imagination into their quest design. It can be done, some of the Cataclysm quests are actually quite good though they still haven't moved away from the "Kill X" model. Will be interesting to see how TOR handles things.

Yeah it's the got the standard MMO formula but something about Rift makes we wan't to play it, unlike WOW.
I for one shall be enjoying it, for how long I do not know.

How would you do it?

As far as I can see there's really only go to, fetch, kill, find types of quests in a multi player environment, every quest boils down to one or other of these regardless of presentation. The problem being a single player cant make a dramatic effect on the playing world of many, as they can in a single player game, and this limits the quest design.

It's a long time since I've read quest text in a MMO. I see quests as a quicker way to level over plain grinding.

My hopes for this game don't rely on generic quests, more the guild PvE and PvP activites in the end game.

Well having tried quite a few different class builds I decided that at level 10, on one of my alts, I would only fight in Warfronts to see how fast I gained xp and suprisingly it was as fast as questing in some respects.

The game offer's many ways of obtaining level's, armour and weapons either from conventional slaying and questing, PvP or Public Events. This is why I enjoy the game more so than say Aion or Lotro, I'm not really forced to grind (loathe that saying hehe) my way to the level cap as I can mix things up.

Again, there's nothing revolutionary about Rift but it's just plain darn fun, thats all I want from my subscription a game that I enjoy.

have you seen the mounts at lvl 50 cost that cost 120p , look awesome, getting a bit carried away i know ;)

thats good if you can get xp by only pvp'ing...
what level you need to be to do that ? 10 as mentioned ?
and where is this Warfront :)

I have 2 or 3 toons and highest is like 7 or 8....grinding from the beginning puts me off....but if I can on to pvp from 10 I will give it another go :)

Im liking my sentinel/druid/warden build at the moment good for solo play and good for warfront, not good when i get mobbed by 3 or more enemies, most points went into sentinel until i got to lvl 16 with a couple in druid for the shield spell, warden for the heal over time and push back spell ( shield and hot spell is nice take no dmg for 30 secs of 400 worth of dmg whilst healing ). The only downside is at lvl 20 i keep running out of mana in long fights, im from a ddo background where clerics spell points was controlled by how much wisdom they have but in this game its int that controlls sp, so need to find things that have high int but decent armour as well.

Warfont has turned into fun over the last 2 days have had 150 kills not bad over 3/4 games.

You can also level just as quickly doing instances and dungeons. Trion have said that there will be no lockout timer on normal dungeons so you can use them to level up. That's actually similar to their exact words, so basically they encourage it.

Another good way is to get a group of friends or guildies and just go Rift hunting. I did this in the second Beta with about 20 other people. I went up from lvl 10 to 15 in about 2 hours. :) It reminded me of some older grind based MMOs where there were few quests and you gained XP just by grouping up and go on a rampage. :D

Spec is sig, latest Cats and THIS is happening. Any ideas?
