Interesting documentary about cannabis

I think people rather underestimate the implications of legalising cannabis.

Nearly all current cannabis production is done illegally and sold privately, the government can't tax something they don't supply. As a result, the only thing that would change is those selling cannabis, who I would like to point out are nearly always involved in other sorts of crime, most often higher classed drugs, will be completely free to make far more money and lets not forget these people are criminals, do you really expect them to start paying tax? They've got away with selling it illegally so far without getting caught.

The only way the government would be able to legalise cannabis is if they set up a company to grow and distribute it, then sell it more cheaply than any random sod can buy it on the street and what with all the bureaucracy, health and safety and labour costs that would involve, do you REALLY think they would make a profit? Also remember there is nothing hard about buying cannabis if you live anywhere near civilisation.

You can't just magically legalise something that has been illegal for years, it just wouldn't work.

I smoked a bit of weed in school and I enjoyed it, however it was clear to me then even as a teenager the effects it can have on people. Even if millions do smoke it illegally, I would rather that than legalise it and end up with the government having to shell out money for yet another legal drug than turns people into jobless addicts.

I want it legalised because i don't like the idea of Young kids smoking the Green that's about these days as i feel it's far to strong to be taking at such a Young age.
In my day there was a ladder you climbed starting off with weak hash & gradually working up to stronger types, This ladder gave you time to grow accustom to being out of your head & in my opinion less head issues were caused.
Nowadays kids are going out & buying ten bags of Cheese weed or other super strong skunk & that is there first smoke, I really don't think this has done any good at all & i would even go as far as saying the Mental problems that are showing there heads is caused by this straight into the strong stuff attitude.
I want it legalised & graded accordingly & restrictions made which don't allow access to super strong skunk to the Young'uns.
At least when its legalised Everybody can be more aware of it & who uses it & some kind of control can be maintained, On top of that the Tax revenue would be most helpful.

1. Legalise it
2. Control it
3. Tax it
4. ???
5. Profit

I think it's been on the cards for a long time, but I reckon the main issue is creating a "level" like the drink driving level, it affects different people in different ways so it's hard to pinpoint. That and the fact the crim's won't like it when the government can undercut them and still pull in huge amounts of profit.

I smoke it sometimes, hasn't ruined my life, I have an excellent job, house is paid off, zero debts etc.

I go to Amsterdam every six months to get completely wasted, and the UK government should just do what they do over there.

Tax it to hell, if you can afford to buy it, great, if you cant then bad luck and get a better job with a higher salary.

They should probably just legalise it and regulate the sale to safer low strength types and use the tax income to fund mental health projects and better border control to limit the incoming illegal stuff.

ha ha, ha ha... the tax would go on extra plazma tvs for unemployed, MP's expences and the next war we start...

Why is there so much fuss over cannabis?

It's a crappy drug, has almost no effect on anyone and the only thing fun about it as a teenager was that it was illegal, it felt like we were pushing boundaries in college.

As soon as I left college I never touched it again,

The only people that you ever see smoking it or smell it on are students or chavvy dole scum.

You pro-cannabis people will be signing a different tune when a cannabis addict high on the stuff breaks in to your house, rapes your girlfriend, and steals all your stuff so he can score his next "fix".

If it has such a negligable effect why did you smoke it?

Merely to look cool?

I mentioned in my post that I did it because it felt like we were pushing boundaries, all my friends smoked it too and it didn't cost me anything so I thought why not, as soon as we left there though me and all my friends stopped

Yes. Street drugs are one of the most marked-up goods on the planet. Every link in the distribution chain is taking as big a cut as they can get away with. The government could tax the hell out of it and still undercut the street dealers. They'd go out of business overnight. You'd also have a guarantee of quality/content, and peace of mind that comes with legal purchase.

You obviously smoked extremely crappy stuff. :)

But good going on sweeping that big brush called generilisation.
