** Official World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Thread **

By the way, if you see any reference to the hard cap and soft cap - the soft cap is the unmodified cap, affecting only your base hit chance. the hard cap includes any debuffs and hitting this cap means you'll never, ever, ever miss under any circumstances. Generally not worth it with the benefit stats in other areas gives you.

Edit: you haven't said what spec you are, either - only that you're not assassination. Sub or Com? I'm guessing Sub, but the stats you'll need are very dependant on what spec you roll.

Not too sure of your knowledge so will simplify things for you (not being condescending though :p)

To be 'capped' is to reach the certain stat level where it is exactly what you need, so you have 'capped it'

main things for a melée class (which rogues are) are to be "hit capped" which means stacking hit on your armor until you jut cap. Being capped in hut means none of your attacks will ever miss.

Next for melée class is "expertise cap" capping this stat guarantees that none of your attacks can de dodged/blocked or parried.

Becoming hit/expertise capped is essential as a melée class as all your auto attacks (basically thise are the attacks your toon auto does when you aren't using an ability) will never miss and they are a good boost to your dps (damage per second, how your performance is measured the higher the better.) get these capped and your dps will noticeably increase.

Now not wanting to insult your intelligence here but if you are playing rogue make sure you stand behind whatever you are attacking where possible. This too will boost your dps, I die a little everytime I see a rogue stood infront of an enemy.

Anyway back on topic your best bet to find out what % you need to be hit capped and what expertise rating you need (you can see your current stats on the side of your character info screen) is to go to the wow Europe site, go the rogue sub section of the forums and ask. Someone will know. Then make it your goal to keep these two stats capped. I would then recomend haste but I'm nit too hot on current rogue specs.

Apologies if anything I have said was really obvious and insults your intelligence, just found it easier to give you the simplest explanation so you don't feel lost :)

good luck!
Thanks, appriciated. :)

Combat.

Found by heading to the forums and clicking 'Rogue' under the class mechanics section, the very first section up there. The link brings you directly to your stat weightings, i/e/ which caps should come before others. The yellow, spell and white caps, to the best of my knowledge, refer to your skill hit (yellow damage numbers), spell hit (rogues cast spells?) and auto-attack [weapon] hit (white damage numbers) caps. Which, in a way, perfectly validates your point - then again, these folks aren't running a 'how-to' service. They're not called Elitist Jerks for nothing.

Edit:
Next for melée class is "expertise cap" capping this stat guarantees that none of your attacks can de dodged/blocked or parried.

Becoming hit/expertise capped is essential as a melée class as all your auto attacks (basically thise are the attacks your toon auto does when you aren't using an ability) will never miss and they are a good boost to your dps (damage per second, how your performance is measured the higher the better.) get these capped and your dps will noticeably increase.

A note on this: the 'soft' cap, what is naturally assumed unless people specifically talk about the 'hard' cap, is 0% base miss chance for hit and 0% dodge/parry chance for expertise except the final 7.5% parry chance for raid bosses (lvMAX + 3 with a little skull icon in the expertise tooltip). Since it's assumed that, as a DPS, you'll be sat behind the boss as much as possible, the stats you'd have to reforge away from crit, haste & mastery vary in their impact from class to class, but universally result in a loss of DPS for anyone who doesn't know what the hell they're doing (e.g. bought their account off eBay and just logged in to a fully-geared lv85 character without ever really learning the class). Get the parry chance down to 7.5% for raid bosses, everything else will be 0% for expertise and you're free to reforge up to whatever's next on the table.

One last point - as mentioned, the guys on that forum are total dicks. They spend far, far more time on WoW than is healthy, which is why they give such great advice. Scrape off the lumpy grease and cover your beef in the rich, delicious gravy that lurks beneath, but don't choke down your dinner dry. Or something. You know what I mean.

You cant overcome block with expertise, but as a non-tank you should NEVER be attacking from the front anyway.

Assassination rogues stat weighting is yellow cap, spell cap (Poisons, 2 of our 3 top contributors of damage), mastery. Beyond that its meh what you pick up, if your haste is too low you might have energy generation issues so balance it accordingly.

Why anyone be specced combat or Subt for PvE is beyond me.

Pew pew pew, 11/12 down atm :)

Al'Akir is such a stupid fight, I hate all that 3 dimensional fights, P3 was giving us too much trouble but we pulled it last night.

Time for some Nefarian fun tonight.

Shameless plug here.

But my guild are recruiting raid geared people for Progress. Currently 2/13HC With Maloriak at 700k wipe - So down tongiht.
Currently need all classes and specs pretty much.

We have a large group of British players, but are international too. We also extend well past wow and pride our selves on our community, we are always on vent even when not in wow, playing other games. Pick a game i expect someone in guild will play it too. We are a guild that likes to have fun, and make the most of our raiding time.

I think thats a bit of a wasted plug waso_dude, from what I can see there are only going to be a handful of raid geared people in this thread at most :p

Never know tho :) I know there are some really good raiders that post in these threads with tips ect for people. And getting raid geared isn't that hard tbh. A week of hcs + some BoE's and your sorted.

By 'raid geared' I thought you meant ready for heroic modes, which you might have trouble with in blues :p

I am 1 item away from BiS for pre-heroic raids. Tier legs which I will buy with VP next week if 1 - they do not drop in BH or 2 - If I don't get offered another 20k gold for BoE VP boots.

Nef should go down soon, shame Cho'Gall is such a HUGE walkover.

I can't play this game anymore - and I don't know why!! Maybe it's just a phase. Whenever I log in I just can't bring myself to do ANYTHING as none of it seems remotely fun. I haven't even been playing it long since my last break!

This.

Did you try archaeology? I've deduced it was that which caused it for me.

You are not alone here, I cancelled my sub a few days ago and probably for the last time too, there is just no desire left.

No problems in blues tbh, its not that hard.

We just ask for be people to be best they can in gear. So all rep grinds done, all boe/point gear. And BiS enchantes, unless its things like powertorrentt that isn't expected on blues.

Just give it a few months and the desire will come back in overwhelming amounts :P at least thats what I keep doing. I've quit "for the last time" many times!

Capped means you can't go any higher in that stat even if you add more rating.

No, capped in this context means you have reached the level you normally need. For example: at level 85 you have an 8% chance to miss level 88 mobs (i.e. bosses) with melee attacks. If you have 8% bonus chance to hit (962 rating), then you will never miss under normal circumstances. However, certain effects can depress your chance to hit and then extra hit will come into play. Typically, though, you'll want to stay as close to the cap as you can without dropping under.
