I find myself needing 7 seats more and more, what with 2 full size baby seats and a booster seat for my 4 yr old, squeezing them all into my mondeo is tough at best, I have found us not being able to take others out because of only 5 seats too, therefore, i think it warrants more seating. My heart would want to go for a used 5 series or A6, (5 seats) but i can't see there being any improvement on seating space, so the sensible side is looking at 7 seats.

Frankly, a Q7 is never going to be in budget, an x5 is just over budget, or in budget for bottom of the pool examples and had to be specced with 7 seats from new anyway?, which leaves the likes of the Ford Galaxy, Zafira, Picasso, Previa etc. I was looking at the zafira yesterday, which i obviously practical and ticks the boxes, then i saw that you can get an '07 VXR for about £8-9k. 0-62 in 7.2, just under 30 to the gallon. (petrol isn't an issue now) and reviews speak fairly ok of it, except for it being a bit off a harsh ride. I would have to test drive one to make my own opinion of it anyway.

So, the wise people of OcUK, what are your opinions, and what alternatives can you offer? Thankyou please!

Powerful MPV, not bad looking.
Would be a choice if I was after same thing, that and the smax.

Ride is terrible and the rear seats are only any good for small kids.Other than that the VXR is quite practicle, but if you carry 7 people regularly its not the best option.

My old man has a Previa at the mo and its massive, full 7 seats and lot of luggage space, we have also had a Galaxy and thats got proper 7 seats. Both seem decent quality cars imo. My mate has has a Picasso and that was a cheap alternative with lots of bells and whistles but a bit cheap feeling, and he now has a Chryser grand voyager and whilst its huuuuuuge, it drinks fuel for fun and isnt as good as the Previa.

I'd have a look at the Smax personally, ive only been in one as a taxi, but it seemed nice.

I drove one around a track and i thing i remember most about it is that the seating and steering wheel position made it look like i was like driving a bus, but it handled so much better than i thought it would.

What about Chrysler Voyager? Boss had one, had 7 seats, auto very comfy

The Chrysler Voyager's i've been in have been shocking. The only thing that it had going for it were that the seats were indeed comfortable. However, the leg room in the back is abysmal, the car was made from crap and to top it off, in an accident, you'd fair better in a cardboard box.

I really don't like the Renault offerings, irrational maybe, but i think they are ugly :(

Fair enough.

What about a Mazda MPV

Though did find this website seems to have all the UK 7 seaters on it, might be worth a look http://www.7-seater-cars.co.uk/index.php

Ex just bought a Zafira. Worst car i've ever driven in my entire life. And i've driven a beat up 306 diesel.

The 1.6 engine she has though revs quite nicely and picks up speed well for what it is. It's everything else that I find repulsive though which is going to be the same in the VXR/GSI.

Don't do it.

like i said, i'm going to test it first myself, tbh, i haven't got the world of choice on my hands with a max of about 9k budget so i'm not going to get what i want, given my choice, i'd squeeze them all in a 5 / 7 series bm, but i need 7 seats.

What about a Volvo XC90?

Good call, but out of budget :(

Does this budget buy an SMAX?

If so, get one. It's the best boring dull sprog wagon by far.

Out of interest, do they have a usable boot when all the seats are in use? That's what I love about my Estima (Previa), nice big usable boot even with all 7 seats in use. Just getting a few ideas for when it's time to change.

Well, been to look at one and test drove it. Opinions, I live the seats, really supportive, fast as you'd expect, but one thing I found strange, and I don't know if it's normal, when you accelerate, foot lightly on the pedal, you pick up at a decent pace, then if you put your foot down, it seems like it's in neutral, I.e the revs go right up, but with no pick up of speed. Does that make sense? Also, the one I looked at was a 07 plate red one, and it's already started suffering with vauxhalls 'pinking' on the body panels. Overall, I liked it more than I expected and I would probably buy one. But not that one I looked at. I'm going to test an S max tomorrow.
