Vegas!

I think others have mentioned this before, but for the love of God don't be stingy with tipping. Whether you agree with it or not it is more or less the way things work over there and you'll get nothing if you don't cough up.

I tip for free drinks in casinos -> drinks come more often. What do you care anyway, they're free and probably worth a lot more in a bar than the $2 or even $5 that you tip the nice lady, and you don't even need to move :p

Final and important note on drinks: When playing say roulette, make sure you get a waitress singled out and when you get your first round of drinks give her a good tip of say $5 a drink. Then she should come back to you quickly (expecting more good monies ;)), then maybe give her $2 a drink for all your subsequent drinks. Stupidly cheap drinking for an evening and lots of gambling.

Bear in mind with this that if you're gambling, you drink for free, whether you're generous with tips or not. The only thing that the plan above (which I agree with BTW) will get you is speedier service :p

You can also drink for free when sat at a bar with the table-top poker/blackjack machines - stick $20 in when you sit down and the drinks will be 'comped', you'll need to be betting a dollar a throw for this, so no 25c per bet: they've tightened up due to the recession ;) If you've got the willpower to leave the machines alone when the barkeep isn't watching then it can make for a cheap night by Vegas standards :D

I found that if I tipped the bar tender a good amount I could quite easily get away with 25c bets on the bar machines. Depends on the person though I suppose, but yeah you can quite easily get comped in bars too.

I hate this thread for the simple reason that I have to wait nearly 5 weeks and am stupidly excited already. :D

I'm planning on going to vegas later this year, this is mainly aimed at Rotty but anyone know what the best places are to stay at? Was thinking of Caesar's Palace or ARI.A (Swear filter blocking competitor website..). Since ARI.A was only finished in 2009 i don't know anyone who has been there so does anyone have any idea what it's like first hand?

Yup :D Was there last September, it's a stunning hotel to stay in, however the casinos and bars etc lacked a bit of atmosphere and some of the staff needed to pick their ideas up a bit - most were OK, but at a 5* hotel you expect 5* service and it wasn't quite there. For the hotel I'd definitely recommend it, but you'll probably find yourself gambling/spending time elsewhere to be honest (although the waitresses in the Deuce bar are stunning even by Vegas standards so that's well worth an hour or two :D)

Planet Hollywood is probably one of the best mid-range places to stay, the location is ideal and it's a really nice hotel with great staff. If you're looking a bit further up the price scale then Bellagio/Venetian etc are also fantastic.

Hey Rotty, we are going back in March. Your advise came in very handy last time and the place has truely grabbed us by the wotsits!

Taking double the money we had last time (not that we ran out mind) and we are there for a day less!

What the hell, lets just blow it all and enjoy it.

Also there for St. Paddy's, which was AWSOME last time.

w00t w00t!

Good stuff, I am off in July this year, flight prices are mad though

last year 4 of us went and all in cost £14k for 9 nights with everything in

Im off to Vegas at the end of the month for a week, part of my new years res to get out and see some more of the world!

Ive got the grand canyon to do ofcourse, im staying at the stratosphere.

What have people done before? what would you recommend?

Please tell me its as awesome as it is in my head....and if it isnt...just lie to me.

You want to see more of the world so your best idea is to fly for 12 hours in order to spend a week in a single city? :p

It isn't as awesome as your head thinks it is, if you are not into gambling it's fun for a day or two to tick a box but beyond that its value is as a stopover point with fantastic hotels on your way to other areas, IMHO of course.

Stratosphere is miles from the action as well, right at the top of the strip.

I liked Vegas but thats because I was there for 3 days rather than a week and it was a stopover point on my way from San Diego to San Francisco.

ARI A is a great casino, the rooms are also supposed to be very good though they do have some service issues, the poker room is prob the nicest I have played in, there is a big but though, it's a sod to get to from the strip, maybe thiings will improve when the last of the city center/cosmopolitan construction is finished but I can'r see it

Forget Ceaser's, it is what is loks like, a hotch potch and extensions and new towers, nothing special and nowhere near worth what they charge, plays on the name

I would choose ARI A over CP any day, also looks at Bellagio and Cosmoploitan in same area at similar money

Whatever Rotty tells you about hotels, listen to. I faced a bewildering choice when I booked mine, in the end I just did what he told me to do and ended up staying in a fantastic hotel in a great location for £38 a night.

You are most welcome :)

I guess define the best? If it's value for money then Rotty has an excellent recommendation on some Aparthotel thing from memory. If you want the perceived highest end hotels then the Bellagio, Wynn/Encore, Venitian/Palazzo and **** complex are the ones generally with the really high star ratings and a good rep. I've stayed in a fair few and really like the Wynn although the location is not the best. Had a room up on the 52nd floor last year and it was lovely. However, how much time will you spend in the room? To many it simply isn't worth the cost and something clean in the middle of the strip is really all that is required.

Almost forgot - check with your hotel with regards to "Resort Fees".

When we were there last March, no such thing was charged, but I have seen plenty of complaints about it since. Our hotel listed resort fees as $10 per day at the time of booking, but they have now increased to $18 per day. So what will happen when we get there remains to be seen. In the grand scale of things, it's not a lot really, but still...

Any thoughts Rotty? Exactly what are we paying for here - a hidden tax as it were?

use monorail is like 5 bucks and get out at caesars or flamigno which is pretty central

Walk from strat to Sahara monorail station - 15 mins
Ride on monorail - 5 mins
Walk from Imperial Palace monorail staton to Caesars casino - 15 mins.

Seriously don't do it to yourself. Stay somewhere else.

Totally agree, really liked Vegas but as I'm not a big gambling fan the bright lights soon started to fade, I found driving out to the canyon and stopping the night was a much more enjoyable experience but then I guess it's horses for courses as people like Rotty clearly love the place.

Quick aside loving how all the refferences to ARI A are allowed in this thread but my members market thread selling acomputer case by antec with the same name it got censored to hell and back!

So you really have no idea why we are allowed to discuss a hotel in Las Vegas but not allowed to discuss a competing computer shop? Really?

Sounds like big trouble. You're going to need plenty of legal advice before this thing is over. As your attorney, I advise you to rent a very fast car with no top. And you'll need the cocaine. Tape recorder for special music. Acapulco shirts. Get the hell out of the U.K. for at least 48 hours. Blows my weekend.
