Benefit cheat caught out by son's Caribbean cruise blog... what a doofus

It was his 7 year old son who wrote it, unless his dad let him then yeah that's pretty stupid.

28k over 4 years? Pfft that's nothing.

It appears that even seven year olds have their blogs read. Another lesson to be learnt about the dangers of the internet for kids.

I'm pretty shocked that he was entitled to claim it in the first place (supposing the flat wasn't owned by his parents):

Fraudster Simon Daymond-Harris (Corr), 37, claimed £560-a-month in housing benefit from August 2006 due to his ‘low income’ as a barman of £90-a-week.

He told authorities he worked 16 hours-a-week and because of his modest wage could not support his wife and three children.

Daymond-Harris claimed he was paying £925-a-month in rent at a four-bedroom waterside apartment in Millbay Marina Village, Plymouth, for four years.

Even if it were a legitimate claim I don't personally believe we should be subsidising people's lives to this extent. Why should some low achiever who only works 16 hours a week in a bar be entitled to a '4 bedroom waterside apartment' simply because he's got a wife and they've chosen to have kids?

No wonder the new govt are making changes to the benefits system - seem like there are rather a lot of savings to be made.

Surely someone on state benefits taking their kids out out of school for 10 months should have raised some flags?

He probably told the school he was going away and they wouldn’t have known that he was getting housing benefit. His benefit cheques were being banked by his mum so how was anyone to know where he was.
