Right, I've got my DG834GT with DGTeam firmware on it. I want to use the DG834GT for the internet, then connect it to my DGN3500 (has gigabit and wireless N).

I tried to do this yesturday, but after hours of trying different settings I couldn't get it to work.

Does anyone know much about this? I tried using modem only mode in DG834GT, tried changing the DHCP settings but no success.

I was wondering if someone has done this, and can just point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Sorry I missed the obvious. Just a normal ethernet cable from DG834GT to DGN3500. So the DG834GT is just there for internet, so thats why I was trying modem only. I want to use the DGN3500 for the wireless N and gigabit features!

So you're connecting to one of the switch ports on the 3500? If so, you should turn off all DHCP, etc on the 3500 and let the 834 manage it. You should also turn off the wireless on the 834. I think, but am not sure, that the 3500 will act as a wireless access point as well as a switch but hopefully someone who knows the device better will comment on this.

ok, I read somewhere that I need to change 3500 ip to somthing other than 192.168.0.1, so it doesn't conflict with dg834gt. So I'm guessing if the 834 does the dhcp then it will have to be in router mode? but with the wireless disabled?

Yes, you will need to change the 3500's IP address. Just make sure it's not in the DHCP range. And you're right about how you need to set the 834.

Modem mode on the DG834GT is flaky. Here's what I do:

Set DG834GT IP to 10.0.0.1 . Turn DHCP off. Turn wireless off. Go to the DMZ tab and set the IP to 10.0.0.10 .

Set DGN3500 WAN IP to Static 10.0.0.10 , Gateway 10.0.0.1 . Configure the rest of router as normal.

Connect cable from WAN of DGN3500 to any LAN port on the DG834GT.

Job done :)

Hang on, I thought the DGN3500 was an ADSL modem (the one on my desk certainly is) so its WAN port can't be connected to a LAN port, only to a phone line. I'd agree with you if we were talking about a cable router but we're not. Unless there are two versions of the DGN3500?

No1 else know anything about this? Surely someone has this setup!
No, probably not. Unless I'm very much mistaken (see above) you're trying to use an ADSL router where you really need one for cable.

Finally got it working! I found out that leaving the DHCP ON on the DG834GT and turning the DGN3500's off. Assigning DG834GT as default 192.168.0.1, and DGN3500 192.168.0.2 And using the static ip for internet. All working at last!
