ASUS will provide a cross-ship option that offers the customer the least amount of system downtime. Upon the receipt of a valid credit card number and approval, a temporary charge hold will be placed against the customer’s credit card for the MSRP value of the replacement product. The replacement product will be shipped to the customer and a prepaid label for return of the existing product will be provided. Upon return of the defective product and verification against the RMA, the temporary charge hold on the customer’s credit card will be lifted.

Very nice indeed.

I wonder how close they are to agreeing the European policy.

Edit: just noticed this:

*Affected models relate to serial numbers beginning with B1, AB and AC.

Mine starts with AC (it's on the box if you're interested). Anyone got one which is not effected?

seems totally logical set up, user gets as little hassle as possible, but Asus are not risking people stealing their gear.

Not often i say this about the old septics, but it seems like a good common sense solution ;)

Agreed. Nice solution for sellers too, no extra throughout/effort necessary for the recall.

I dont like it. What if you dont have a credit card? What if you cant actually afford to have the money on hold?

That was my immediate thought too. I guess Debit cards are also fine, but yeah - money is always a problem. Maybe they reckon PC gamers who've bought the latest SB mobos are rolling in it?

Well MSI can KMA if they think they're having my card details, they supplied (alright it wasn't their fault) a faulty product so they can suck it up!

AC here too - Maximus IV Extreme

It wouldn't surprise me to be honest if B1, AB and AC actually covers all of the retail motherboards.

Also - no problem with the credit card cross-shiip thing here, have had a similar thing before with something else. As far as I'm aware the money doesn't actually leave your account, there is just a hold placed on it. Either way it's not a big deal imo.

i wouldn't sweat it, that's the American policy, we don't get treated any where near as well as US customers do.

As Durzel said below...

... they don't actually remove the funds. It's a 'charge hold', not a transaction that's refunded.

A word of advice, send it back recorded delivery. I've had to RMA some hardware recently, and the guy in the post office said that people treat signed-for stuff differently, as responsibility is easy to track. The last thing you want is for it to get lost, and you having to pay for that privilege :)

I was thinking the exact same thing. 5-15%? More like 85-95%.

Someone on the [H] forums has already experienced the problem after putting 4TB through the Intel 3G SATA port. Suffered some corrupt and lost data towards the end.

To send recorded delivery would cost over £23.00 if they pay for shipping im doing that. as long as u can prove its been posted thats there problem. they paid for the service not me.

Good service from Asus as always.

Are you sure? recorded delivery is usually about a tenner in my experience, special delivery (guaranteed next day) would probably be about £20 for a motherboard though.

i can guarantee on a motherboard will be about £20.00 + easy.
i have sent loads special delivery and wont be paying for this.

Western Digital do mthe same kind of advance RMA for hard drives. Whilst they may not actually remove the funds they are on hold so you cant spend them. And no doubt the amount they put on hold will be thier selling price which no doubt will be way more than what you actually got the board for.

Why cant they do what monitor manufacters do, new monitor arrives, old one goes back in same box with same courier.

Recorded delivery and special delivery are different services. Special is next day, Recorded is normal (first class) post but with a signature.

I sent an HX850 PSU (heavy) recorded delivery yesterday and it cost £10. Recorded delivery parcel to Germany cost £15.

I would guess the mobo would be under £10 for recorded. Personally, that's worth it to ensure that if anything happens during postage, the cost of an additional mobo is not taken from my account.

i have the p8p67 deluxe i may ask when i can swap it if i pan pay the extre for the asus maximus board. see if they will.

Probably not - RMA entails a refund or a replacement. You can then purchase a new board upon refund completion.

Out of interest - why the upgrade?
