I know it's not out until later this year and hardware will change but what kind of system could I get now?

- Requirements -

£550 budget.
Intel or AMD.
ATI card unless really persuaded.
Don't need a PSU bigger than 500w.
No screen.
No OS.
I can do a gentle OC.
Upgrade potential.

Interesting to see what some of you guys come up with!

P.S I know I won't be able to play it on high, just as good as I can get.

Very nice, cheers mint. It's quite an impressive spec for the money when you look at it! I like the added CPU cooler so I can OC that quad Phenom.

I'd be tempted to up the RAM to 8Gb, depends on whther you've got a 64bit OS though. Other than that looks like a lot of bang for your buck!

I remember building a rig in anticipation of the HL2 release date, moral of the story, it's probably better to wait until it's out and see what is available then!

I know it comes in over budget but the build will be faster than the AMD one and should also have a longer life :)

So I guess the I5 system will be a faster overall PC, but the AMD system will edge ahead in games because of the better graphics? Or will be I5 make up the extra FPS the 6870 gives over the 5850?

Depends if the game is more CPU or GPU dependent, it will probably be pretty close in battlefield, however if you're thinking about buying Sandy Bridge in the next 2 months, make sure you read up and understand the chipset issues (new section of the forums.) It's not really an issue if you don't think you'll need to use more than 4 SATA ports on the motherboard.
