Hi
After trying everything to cool my current gtx 295 card i have decided to buy another card that doe's not overheat like the 295
I was just wondering if anyone know's of a decent high end card that so far don't have any heat issues. i was thinking about buying this one on ocuk

Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card or

XFX ATI Radeon HD 6870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Any input will help please because I'm not to clued up on the new cards out now
And also I have been looking for this
VANTEC SP-FC70-BL SPECTRUM SYSTEM FAN CARD on a UK website but can only find them on US websites anyone know who sells them in the UK
Thanks in advance

6870 5870 are very cool cards

6950-6970 run a little hot so i hear on these forums but nothing to worry about if you have a decent case with good cooling.

GTX 560-570-580 all run very cool

All the above have custom coolers which will be quieter and cooler than reference cards

GTX570s and 580s don't "run cool", they're cool compared to Fermi GPUs, which were very hot, 6950s and 6970s run cooler than them both, with the 5870 being the coolest.

My 580 runs very cool thanks.

Idle 38-40c

Load 65-73c

Would you disagree that this is not classed as a cool "high end" running card which is what the OP is asking for.

Edit: Infact my 580 is roughly the same temps when i had a 5870.

As I said, they're cool compared to previous fermi GPUs, and your 580 having roughly the same temps as your 5870 isn't quite right as the GPU temperature doesn't equate to actual heat output. Two GPUs running at the same GPU temperature can be outputting a lot more heat. Your 5870 may have been running at roughly the same GPU temperature as your current 580, but your 580 will actually be running at a much higher overall temperature, if you were to look at them on a thermal camera.

http://www.geeks3d.com/20100405/infrared-pictures-of-the-geforce-gtx-480/ if you check that link you'll see what I mean. The GPUs are running about 10 degrees apart, but the 480 is putting out a lot more heat compared to the 5870. The GTX580 isn't actually that much cooler than a 480 in the way it's portrayed, the main reason is that the 580 has a much much better heatsink, but is still kicking out the heat. I wouldn't recommend a GTX580, 570 or 6970 to anyone really when you can get a 6950 and unlock the shaders, it makes far more sense at half the cost of a 580, and 2/3 the cost of a 570 and 6970, for pretty much the same performance.

Interesting read that,im of course talking about a 580 and not a 480 which is what that article is talking about, while i do get what you are trying to say.

Imo,The thermal images of the 480 would be nothing like that with a 580 due to the
Vapour Chamber it uses which is a superior cooling system.

I still stand by that the 580 is a cool running card.

If the 6950/6970 is better than the 580 that is down to user preference.

The beauty with the 580 is when its overclocked there are some big gains,(what ive found anyway).

I personally found the GTX570/580 to run cooler and quieter than the AMD cards. The GTX580 is significantly better than the GTX480.

Which 295 do you have? An old Dual PCB one? Mines over a year old now and still doesn't go over 65 under load.

Gainwood 295 gtx
does Dual PCB mean 2 gpu chips in it ?
If so yes it is. my card can over heat to 110c when playing certain games then crashes once it hits 115c and its about 68 to 70c when idle
I have got about £220 to get a new card so the 570 or 580 maybe to costly for me but i do like the look of the 560 that kmuf77 sent me

Is the 560 a decent upgrade from my 295 ?
Sorry for being such a noob thanks again

If you have £200 then you could get a 6950 and unlock it to a 6970
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18221844

Or get a 560.

If it was my £200 i would get a 6950 and flash it to a 6970,dont forget the 6950 comes with a huge 2 gb Vram compared to 1gb on the 560.

I think the 295 will be either very slightly faster than a 560/6950/ or on par thereabouts.

A 6970 will be a little faster than a 295 i think.

According to MSI Afterburner my 295 stats are
Core Clock 576MHz compared to the 560 which is 900MHz
Shader clock 1242MHz 560 one is 1800MHz
Memory clockMHz 999 560 is 4000MHz

With them stats compared is the 295 really faster than the 560 ?
If the 295 is faster I may do a RMA because it is only 18months old I should be in warranty with Gainward still it must be faulty generating them kind of heats
Thanks for all your help

The best Nvidia card is the GTX460 by a long way. Every ATI is good but the best would probably be the HD6950 or HD6870.

I think the HD6950 would be my pick.

You can't really directly compare the clockspeeds of different GPUs and graphics cards with different RAM. The GTX295 has 2GPUs, for one, and they are around GTX480/570 performance, so a 560 will be a step down in terms of flatout performance, however a single GPU will offer more consistent performance. Regardless of what you decide to do, you should still RMA your card as it's still in warranty, and if you decide to buy another card in the meantime, you could sell what ever card you get back.

I woudn't say every ATi is good, the 6950 makes the 6870 and 6970s pretty irrelevant since the 6870 is so close in price to the 6950, and pretty much all 6950s can unlock the extra shaders to basically become a 6970. The 6970, GTX580 and GTX570s are all pretty much just a joke.

Sold my 295 GTX the other day (was getting 21500 in3dmark06) and purchased a MSI 560 GTX Ti and I'm now getting 21800 BUT it's running 30c cooler so it's perfect. :)

None of the cards mentioned above will run anywhere near as hot as your 295 and all run about the same temps (maybe the 6800's are cooler but are also more mid range cards). Just pick your flavor, red or green, and then pick the model that suits your budget.
