Need help with new tv

I have a new TV, and when i plug the Arial in it doesn't plug in. The cable input and the TV Arial connection both have a metal line in them, so they don't connect. Is there some sort of adapter i need here?

you just need a male to female adapter

Strange for a telly to have a male socket on the back. Are you sure it doesn't have built in freesat and you are maybe using the sat input by mistake?
