Got quotes last week for a car on a provisional license (test next week) Came out at £740 per year. Thought 'not bad' so bought the car. Did a quote out of interest to see how much it would fall after I pass my test and get a proper license and was shocked to see it doubles. I could manage £740 per year but £1,500 aaaaargh!

Luckily this will be recovered from the price of driving lessons but I can't believe the difference in price and that it was actually more.

I just assumed once you had a license to prove you could actually drive, you wouldn't be so risky. I realise now that the first few times alone after passing are probably your most risky. Basically I didn't think.

More than your first few times, not having another supervising driver next to you makes a whole load of difference.

remember to put you mum as a named driver on your policy even if she never drives it. lowers most premiums iirc

Yeah give it a test with lots of different variables, parked on drive/street, add 1/2 named drivers (could be more expensive or a lot less with two). Insurance variables give completely unexpected outcomes sometimes.

I almost rear-ended someone the very first time I drove by myself after passing my test about an hour earlier. That's why your insurance goes up ;)

Just got a 2000 1.6 Megane cabriolet. Basically a cheap convertable that I can squeeze one or two passengers in. Prob wrong choice but it was absolutely mint, full leather etc, had to have it.

try admiral, add your mum your dad your partner anybody who drives to the policy and it should bring it down. Also give adrian flux a ring I will be very supprised if you can't get insured for less than a grand being 44 and nothing special car. I was expecting you to say some fast sports car.

Thanks phi1.
I initially got an Admiral quote through Money Supermarket.com which came out at £1,350. Just got a quote direct from Admiral's website with my sister included as a secondary driver and it's come out as £793.38. Good stuff.

No problem is that once you have passed your test if so brilliant have a play if there is somebody else you could also add to the policy it would most likely reduce it further they don't actually have to drive the car just being on the policy.
