I don't mind a documentary or a serious series every now and again. What do you guys recommend.

It can be anything as long as it's well presented and told, and factually sound. I prefer science styled ones, particularly nature ones. I've enjoyed all of Attenborough and e.g. The Planets on iPlayer. I don't often flick up to e.g. the National Geographic channel but don't really particularly like how the Americans do these. They're often too watered down or hippyish.

South Pacific was one of my favourite documentary's ever, each episode focused on a different aspect of the pacific and was fascinating.

The Corporation (2003), a much more level headed approach towards business sustainability and corporate culture as opposed to the stuff Michael Moore produces.

Dr Robert Winston has done some fantastic documentary series, he's a fascinating guy and has an excellent presenting style;

Superhuman
The Secret Life of Twins
Child of Our Time
Human Instinct
The Human Body
Walking With Cavemen

David Attenborough's Madagascar Island Of Marvels was on last night, watch on iPlayer.

Also if you can find it have a look at Eye Of The Leopard (2006). Very, very good if you like big cats.

I've just bought and am half-way through watching Wonders of The Solar System on Bluray.

It is absolutely beautifully edited (as per most BBC documetaries) and quite compelling viewing. The cinematography combined with CGI is outstanding, and there are a few moments showing images from other planets or moons where you first think "Oooh cool graphics" only to find that they are real images from orbiting spacecraft.

It's presented by Brian Cox (formerly of D-Ream!), who is quite charismatic, very enthusiastic and exceptionally geeky. The subject matter doesn't dumb down or hold back too much on the science, so much so that half-way through the first episode my wife said "I have no idea what he's going on about", and concentrated on her DS instead.

The series is six one-hour episodes, and can be had for £11.50.

I'd highly recommend watching it, especially on Bluray if you can.

There's a few good ones from the BBC by Jim Al-Khalili, "The Atom" and "The secret life of chaos" are really good, i sometimes notice a good documentary will randomly appear on BBC Four, not often enough though tbh.
