It used to be 24 hours but was changed fairly recently. A lot of developers lobbied Google to alter it as customers were taking the mick, especially with games, where they'd buy the app, play it to completion in under a day and then ask for a refund.
Here's a little idea for ya... What I do is buy an app, then use appsaver to copy it to an installable .apk file on my sd card, then refund it and reinstall it from the saved .apk
That allows for testing without a time limit - after that time, if it's cack, you can delete it and you haven't lost anything. However, if you think it's a keeper, re-buy it to support the dev and get updates etc
There are some apps that need a license to use, they check the market to make sure you have permission to use them - in that case, just buy it and try it the old fashioned way lol
