The really funny thing about the whole hippy argument is that if the icecaps melt global tides will actual fall because ice displaces more water than water itself (let a glass of water + icecubes melt and the level will drop) ofc that isn't widely publicised because governments cant tax/scare ppl with it ^^

excellent lol. I had a big 4x4 for my last car and gained some unpopularity with it at work; nothing serious just people assume your killing the planet etc. Anyhow I swopped it for my current car and nobody bats an eyelid.... my current is just as long as the 4x4, much wider and has about 3kg less of co2 - but now im saving the planet!

...to me, it smacks of a bunch of jealous losers who are upset they can't afford similar cars who use 'Climate Change' as a pathetic excuse to target owners of such cars. If it was really about emissions, why the need to keep attacking status and mentioning size and money? Pathetic behaviour frankly

It isn't widely publicised because it's wrong.
Ice floats. Displacement of a floating object is by weight, not volume. So the water level stays the same when floating ice melts.
The concern is more to do with ice on land melting and falling into the sea. That will cause sea levels to rise.
It's hard to say what the effect would be anyway, because one side says it'll rise and cause damage, and the other says it won't.
So who do we believe?
Sorry but the ice you see above water is only the "tip", if the icecaps do melt the sea levels wont rise except maybe a little due to thermal expansion, but meh you go on believing what the politicians say ill believe what the geologists say

For floating ice, there will be negligable change, yes. (It wouldn't go down though, unless some ice was forcefully submerged and not floating at its natural level)
For non floating ice/snow (such as the Antartic) which is all just sat on top of rock, not floating like the Arctic is then it will obviously cause a rise if it melts in any great volume as it's currently just sat on land.

The whole Environmental thing is a joke.
Think of all the people who have Ferarris that put out over 300g/km but rarely get driven.
Yet it's 'OK' for someone to drive an 'Eco' car which, in terms of net emissions, would put out a vast deal more and cause greater 'environmental damage.'

Yes but water expands when it forms ice and ice will displace its own weight of water when floating. an iceberg will not add to the overall sea level upon melting even if it toweres ou of the water, but the poles aren't icebergs however they are not all ice either the are hollow sections, debris/etc.
Actually lets just forget it, we'll both be long dead before anything ever comes of global warming/climate change anyway

At the end of the day it's a protest, it's against the prevailing view. Some folk think there's a problem with the prevailing situation (big cars in this case). History is littered with examples of groups taking positive, and yes sometimes criminal, unpopular and disruptive action for causes they care about.
More power to them I say. We need more people standing up for what they believe in, getting out from in front of their TVs and computers and doing something. Who cares about the specific issue - the point is that some people and getting up, going out and doing something. This is a good thing.

Don't worry, ive recently put down a deposit on a new (to me) Supra twin turbo
/Meh, they would have to do a lot to convince me that man’s 3% contribution to the planet’s greenhouse gases effects the climate enough for me driving a rubbish car to make a difference. Especially considering that one NASCAR race puts out more CO2 than my car will in over half a decade.
