Test Drive 2 has been released & is available to download on steam

Getting what feels like microstutter - certainly doesn't feel smooth, and yet my fps are 40+

Graphically it isn't great though.

I get the same. At 1920x1200 all high and 4x AA I get about 40-60fps on my 5850 & i7@4GHz. I've had to turn everything down to medium to get the frame rate above 80. I've found anything below 80 isn't smooth. Hopefully a patch or driver update will fix it. It could also be because I'm using a very old driver for my gpu (I think 10.03).

Aye aswell as the clutch, really slow steering, despite what i do with the ingame sliders - how did this ever pass beta ill never know.

Sounds exactly like what it was like during the Beta (I was in it) where the physics and handling were one of the key points testers kept bringing up but the developers obviously never listened to that and concentrated on getting silly things like the Casino working properly. Not every person who buys the game will even use/buy the Casino but the driving is something everyone who purchased the game will experience and they obviously haven't tried sorting it out.

Seems as though the developers priorities were in the entirely wrong place. Mind you, I'm still looking forward to (hopefully) getting the game tomorrow :p

The main problem im seeing at the moment, how on earth can they fix it without actually re-designing the game - a simple patch surely cant sort this out - must say though, even with its flaws its pretty entertaining and Ibiza is huge.

does it have fully customisable controls?? e.g being able to have the driving controls all on the right analog stick of the xbox360 controller
HI Gareth170...I have check this for you later as i only been using the default xbox controller profile

If it hasn't then you need to make another customisable controls thread ;)

I had slow steering at first. Can't remember which slider I changed, but it is driving perfectly now.

The game certainly has its problems, but I am having fun :)

Of course, it would have been easier if the game had detected my wheel. I had to go into Logitech Profiler and switch off "combined pedals" as it wasn't detecting them. Have most of the sliders at the lowest settings. Sensitivity at maximum.

So is there a second island? I was under the impression it was only set on Ibiza.

Edit: Where do I find the casino?

^ they redid Oahu over as well, as for the casino I believe there's a map on the first page

and anyone know if the thrustmaster RGT works?

Why is it that this game runs on the same console hardware as the 2006 original... yet the PC system requirements appear to have shot up in that time. TDU 1 runs great on what is nowadays modest hardware (mine for example) but TDU 2 is more demanding?

I haven't got the game but the graphics don't look to have improved at all, in fact they are possibly worse.

That's fairly standard for new generation console games; back in 2006 the XB360 was extremely new and the developers perhaps hadn't had time to fully get to grip with optimising games for the platform. This often happens and for example if you compare early Saturn games with ones that came much later there is a marked difference in quality. 4 years on and obviously the developer will be right on the money in terms of XB360 efficiency.

Also when it comes to PC system requirements don't forget the PC version didn't come out until 2007, then just the simple fact that system requirements aren't worth the paper/pixels they are printed on. They will ALWAYS go up over time simply irrespective of technical reasons because the average computer has got faster; system requirements are not dictated solely by how demanding the game is, but also by what the publisher thinks they can get away with. Even games that use the same engine often have requirements creep if the sequel comes out a significant amount of time later.

Or in other words, the system requirements for TDU2 are actually what the requirements for TDU should have been, just they wouldn't have been able to get away with it in 2007. 2.2ghz C2D/X2, 2GB RAM, 8800/3870. Sounds pretty much bang on for TDU to me, yet that's the TDU2 spec. Good luck trying to get good performance out of TDU from a P4 2.4, 1GB RAM and a 6600GT.

True :(

Ok...

It seems like those who have the game (myself included) quiet like it as it is more of the same as the first, yet those who dont have it, say it is pants?

There are issues but no more so than TDU1, that had more than a few rough edges ;)
