First Bentley warranty claim today, new head unit for the stereo, 1400 quid with fitting.

It started going off at random, bashing the top of the dashboard worked for a while, then it died all together.

Anyway they just dropped it back with a wash jolly good :)

Yikes, I guess they just overcharge and then add an extra zero :D

Nah. The 'Stereo' is infact the Infotainment unit. It is probably closer to a Computer than it is to a traditional car stereo . £1400 actually seems quite cheap, I always thought they were a fair wack more than that :).

Glad to hear that the warranty process was painless. Did you have to pay any excess?

Nope it was pain free :)

I dont know how the warranty companies make any money, we paid 3.5k last year for 3 years cover on the S-Class and today it looks like we are going to have to put in our first claim for 3k

(nb family car not my one)

I'm not able to justify why because its electronics at the end of the day but i'd just not expect this kind of thing to happen in such a car

It's impossible to prevent things going wrong, in this case it's mobile computers mass produced, some will be defective, it's as simple as that.

Intel recently had to recall a sigificant volume of chipsets due to an unforseen bug, and as said in a post above, high end infotainment centers are essentially pc's, albeit cut down "efficient " platforms such as tegra, atom, etc.

To put this into context, i once overheard a woman at a garage say "what do you mean, it needs new tyres? It's a Mercedes! "

Saw a woman get out of this:

That was probably her :p

I love the thought of you bashing the dashboard in a Bentley to make it work :D

I remember when I went to my mates from primary school when I was about 11. Imagine a large 3 storey house with a stone garage that housed 9 cars with heating etc. His Bentley (Brooklands shape, dunno the exact model) was blocking the entrance to the garage where my mate had a couple of Minis to hoon around in the grounds and we asked him to move it, he gave us the keys... One wall later, we were thankful he had a sense of humour, oops! He was normally a grumpy git and had some mean looking associates, think he made himself in property, but his "smack it with a hammer" to fix it was rather out of character and he just laughed it off. We didn't tell him my other mate ****ed in the pool mind you :D

Anyway, random story over, you just had the value of my car installed into your dashboard. If it breaks again I want videos of your temporary fix, just to prove Bentley owners are human too ;)

You cant beat dashboard beating im telling you, second only to beating your kids up :D

Lol! Unfortunatly not, the one I saw was dark blue, an SLK if I recall - i think there may be scarey pattern emerging here...

That tyre is shocking..

So true, the parent's 911 had a dodgy headlight switch. Before I could replace it for them the fix was to give it a little whack.

£80 for the part and 5 minutes with a screwdriver and all was well again, and as payment I got to have it for a week, yay.

Not got any kids so can't comment on the latter, yet ;)

It's the master unit on the MOST bus iirc. Not heard any panic at work so can only assume it's not the cable that's been the problem ;)

Does your work place have a hand in making the Infotainment system itself?

To be honest, we don't go much further than confirming that something is not quite right and bunging in a replacement.

Sometimes, a hefty kick works wonders with Sweedish trucks too!

Not sure how a size 11 boot print would look on the soft feel dash'd Bentley..... (he says like he knows its got one! :o :D)

But, yes, I quite concur, violence against vehicles can work wonders! :D

I have to refrain on my thoughts re: kids, I have a 14year old daughter - anybody else with one, will know my woe! :D
