Hi everyone,

I have just been trying to overclock my new MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II 1024MB with MSI afterburner with Kombuster running to test the stability. I was wondering what you though of these temperatures.

Running kombuster stability test for 15 minutes with post-processing and xtreme burning mode on 1280x1024 with my gpu at 850 core/ 1200 mem, it hovered around the 68 degrees mark with the fans running at around 70%.

The temps seem ok to me but i don't know much about graphics cards really.
Do you think i could change the fan settings to a bit lower, as they make a hell of a noise over 60%?

cheers.

850 core / 1200 mem is just short of 5870 performance. Think it takes 925 / 1200 to match it.

Kombuster will heat up the gfx card a fair bit more than gaming will, so your temps are fine.

thank you for the respones.

now i just need to get afterburner to remember profiles and setting etc.
it seems to only apply when it wants to. also, i am trying to set up 2d/3d profile but can't seem to get it to stick. do any other programs affect the settings at all? ccc maybe, should i disable something in that, or delete it all together?
Or is afterburner just very tempremental?

cheers

am i doing something wrong in afterburner?
when i click apply it reverts to the original setting, also, i can't set 2d/3d profiles, they won't change.
cheers

yes mate.
i click on profile 1, it says that it has loaded, but when i click apply, it doesn't apply, all of the sliders go back to default.

Delete the 2 or so profiles you have. Close afterburner & then load it again.

Set the clocks, etc... click apply, then save to a profile slot.

Make sure the clock & fan control in CCC Overdrive are disabled.

yea, that seems to have worked, thanks.
it still doesn't seem to be using 2d/3d though.

Oh, no it hasn't. after restarting afterburner, it still will not apply changes.

temp never went above 55.

another question, is just completing heaven meaning that the card is stable?
also, as i can't ge afterburner to change 2d/3d settings, is it alright to just leave it all on the oc'd settings all the time?

thanks.

Looks fine. Completing Heaven is a step towards meaning its stable but you can get overclocks that work fine in one app & cause a problem in another.

Best thing to do is play the games you normally would. If you get any unexpected freezes, driver stops responding, blue screen, etc... lower the memory & core clock by 10mhz & try again.

Or increase the voltage by 0.025v if you're not too high already. Think 1.25v is regarded as a safe'ish level on 5850's as long as your load temp isn't too high ( 80+ )

As for the afterburner problem, remove the profiles from the 2d/3d option popups. Close it down & restart it again then add the profiles back into the popups.

If that doesn't work, try a reboot after closing afterburner down then restart it, etc...
