Best way to format your car ebay listing when selling as "car for sale but needs some work"

Well it should be ready to list on Saturday/Sunday. It's going to be very close, it will probably have 1 weeks worth of tax left.

I am just compiling the advert now, I will post it on here when its done to see if its ready to go on the bay :)

Does this look like an ebayesque advert candidate (please note its not finished yet). Also, would you ask for a deposit on auction win?

VW Golf MK4 2001 (Y) GT TDi 110

You are bidding on a Volkswagen Golf (MK4) GT TDi 110 – Y Reg (2001), 167,000 Miles, sold as drivable but needs some work or can be used as spares.

Specification:

Overall Condition:
Bodywork - Starting from the outside, the body work is in good condition apart from some scuffs on the bumper (enter side here) and a small dent on the driver’s side front wing.

Interior -

Tyres -

Brakes -

Service History:
Car has VW Service history up until 78,905miles, Cambelt replaced by VW, Independent garage service history until 117,000 miles and self-service up until current mileage of 167,000miles.

Standard part replacements include:
New Rear coil springs @ 140,000 Miles
New Battery @ 152,000 Miles
New Alternator @ 156,000 Miles
New Fan Belt @ 156,000 Miles
New Front Wishbone Bushes @ 159,000 Miles
New OSF Top Strut Mount @ 159,000 Miles
New NSF Shock @ 159,000 Miles

MOT: Car has a valid MOT until September 20th 2011
Tax: Runs out 28th February 2011

Work Needed:
Water pump – Unfortunately the water pump needs to be sorted as it broke (I was quoted £150 to repair). This became a problem on a run back from work the last time the car was used, however the car at this point was driven home and left on the drive (as I have a new car now I decided to not to get this repaired). It was only driven a short distance to the garage to confirm it was the pump that had gone, then back on the drive.

Drivers Door Control Module – Common fault with the MK4 Golf and has only started recently happening, the control module is faulty, the controls work for the door lock, electric windows and mirrors, however half way through a journey you may find that the electric windows will not work until the “door lock/unlock” button is pressed, it will then begin to work again.

Keyfob/Immobiliser – Unfortunately the Keyfob no longer unlocks the car, the receiver needs to be looked at (recoded). So to unlock the car you have to unlock the door manually, then you have to disable the alarm by starting the engine (otherwise the alarm will go off in 20 seconds).

Car needs to be collected within 2-3 days because of tax issues otherwise I will have to SORN it. No timewasters. Reserve price on auction set to £600

Would you change anything so far?

No rust no, pics will be included with the auction, I need to clean the car this weekend and take some pics.

Take as many pics of the bad bits as possible, be up front about it & put a link to a photopucket page with further images on it also.

Give the interior a good clean too. That said, I didn't bother to do that with my 328i yet I got an e-mail of the purchaser commenting how good it was inside  - it was like a council tip :o :D

Yeah the inside and outside will be cleaned as much as possible. I was planning on including auction pics, and a link to an external host for more pics :)

Would you change anything so far?

Get rid of the reserve price, start it at a penny, loads of people search for cars by price not make so your limiting your audience, I watched a friends Bora with pretty much the same mileage age and problems go for over a grand.

Get some good pics and ask for cash on collection save the paypal fees

Good luck :)

OK getting very close to the listing time, still going through the wording..still needs some work but does this seem ok??

As much critisism needed please :)

You are bidding on a Volkswagen Golf (MK4) GT TDi 110bhp – Y Reg (2001), 167,843 Miles, sold as drivable but needs some work or can be used as spares.

Excellent car and has served me well.

Specification: Volkswagen Golf GT TDi (110) Y Reg (2001) Turbo Diesel Engine, 110bhp, 5 Door, 5-Speed Manual Gearbox, 15” wheels, Radio/Cassette with -6 CD Multi-changer, Trip Computer, average fuel economy around 54mpg.

MOT: Car has a valid MOT until September 20th 2011

TAX: Until 28th February 2011

Overall Condition:
Bodywork - Starting from the outside, the body work is in ok condition, being a 10 year old car there are some cosmetic marks and a few scratches and a small dent on the driver’s side front wing.

Interior - Interior is in good condition although there is one or two seat marks, there are a couple of small burn marks from a previous owner (I have included these in the photo bucket link album)

Alloys & Tyres – 15” standard alloys, there is a few marks on the alloys (it’s a given with a car on a 2001 plate) 2 x rear tyres are half worn, 2 x front tyres again half worn but will need to be replaced sooner than the rear. Spare tyre also in good condition. Has all the tools to remove a wheel if necessary (including locking wheel nut).

Brake Pads/Disks – Rear disks in fair condition, they were changed @ 128,000 miles along with a set of pads. Front disks in fair condition with pads changed about 4,000 miles ago, I would say they still have 1/2 to 3/4 of their life left.

New NSF Shock @ 159,000 Miles

Work Needed:

Water pump – Unfortunately the water pump needs to be sorted as it recently broke (causing car to run at a higher temp at high revs and no heat through the cabin heaters). I was quoted around £150 to repair from two garages.

Radio Keyfob/Immobiliser – Unfortunately the radio Keyfob no longer locks/unlocks the car; the receiver needs to be looked at (recoded). So to unlock the car you have to unlock the door manually, then you have to disable the alarm by starting the engine (otherwise the alarm will go off in 20 seconds).

Documentation & Key’s

Car comes 2 x keyfob’s with built in keys. With regards to documentation, I have the original owner’s manual, VW service manual, independent garage service manual, MOT Certificates, Owners Log Book (will need to be updated), replacement part receipts and various other service documentation.

Viewings are welcome before auction end
