Just how easy is a whiplash claim?

Couple of days ago my GF was driving to uni when a woman pulled out on her, thankfully they only had a slow speed impact and it was that minor they didn't even bother exchanging insurance details (Just a few paint scratches, didn't even dent the body work). The woman got out of the car and evaluated the damage and said something along the lines of "Oh I don't have time for this, I'm just in shock because I'm pregnant". That was the last she heard of it.

Turns out the woman had written down her reg plate so next day my GF gets a phonecall from the police wanting a statement about the accident and they mention that the woman is now claiming whiplash from the accident. Naturally she's absolutely distraught by the whole thing as she's been driving for just under a year. We're both claiming BS on her whiplash claim just because the accident was so minor, she reckons maybe 5mph or less at time of impact.

Apparently the impact was on the right rear-side panel near the back door (If that's likely to affect the outcome, she didn't rear-end her).

What do people think may happen, I know the Police aren't stupid but how likely is she to get the whiplash claim? She's convinced that because she's only 19 and that the woman is pregnant then the ruling may side with the pregnant woman (I've told her it won't work like that so anything you lot can say to make her realise this would be great)

I'll forward any advice/comments in this thread to her.

Thanks :)

I'm with you OP, sounds like BS to me, but I'm sorry the insurance co will probably just bend over and take the punishment and then pay out for the claim.

If it was such a slow speed accident there has to be a reason as to why your GF didn't manage to stop in time.

I'd invest in a in car camera of some sort to record the poor driving should anything like this happen again.

I have one and some of the shocking sights I've recorded is crazy, one day someone is going to crash and I'll be pleased to hand the footage to the insurance co.

Yeah, they pulled out in front of your g/f and caused an accident and now their after compensation from you? you shouldn't have much trouble finding a lawyer to fight this off..., make sure you take them for costs
