Hey Guys

Saw a post on the Q6600 thread with someones settings, they said they had same mobo as me, same CPU.

So I thought, I'll just copy theirs and see how we go, now their FSB speed was 1066MHz, whilst mine was in the region of 1700ish.

I don't see how this was caused so I'm slightly confused how I'm supposed to overclock correctly, should I just up the FSB slowly and see how I go?

Ideally I would try to get my FSB to match my RAM as closely as possible. This seems to give the best Memory Copy/read/write. I think the easiest overclock that people can manage on a Q6600 is 3.2Ghz, though some seem to stop at 3.0Ghz. Maybe you have one of these chips that can't push any further.
Please post your CPU multi, fsb and voltages, maybe we can see where you are going wrong

It is pretty easy to clock a Q6600 to 3.0Ghz. All you have to do is 333x9. You may have to up your v core voltage a couple of notches depending on your vid?

I'm currently running at 3.2Ghz: 8x400 which gives me a ratio of 1.1 and i set my v core to 1.4v.

Need to get few things sorted out first.

The true FSB speed is 1066/4 = 266MHz which is the stock speed: [email protected]; 266MHz x 9(multiplier) = 2400MHz = 2.4Ghz (stock speed)

FSB = 1700/4 = 425Mhz Depending on the multiplier you use i.e. either 8 or 9

[email protected]; 425MHz x 9 = 3825MHz = 3.825GHz
[email protected]; 425MHz x 8 = 3400Mhz = 3.4Ghz

So in your case you ended up applying the settings for [email protected] to either of the speeds mentioned above. Basically your overclock will fail.

Disconnect the powersupply power cord and take out the CMOS battery for 1/2 minutes and then place it back in the mobo. That should hopefully reset all your values back to stock.
As your RAM speed is set at 533MHz (DDR2 1066MHz), you need to go back in the bios and see if the speed is the same. Afaik all the DDR2 run at rated speed of 400MHz (DDR2 800MHz) at stock settings.

Please also list how many ram sticks are you using and what is VID (stock voltage) of your Q6600? This can be found by running coretemp program. Make sure EIST (intel speedstep) and C1E are disabled in bios.
Also what cpu cooler are you using?

I suggest you do all this first before moving to actual overclocking:).

Mini bump/hijack.

I currently have all powersaving settings off i.e. C1E and Speedstep etc, clocked at 3.2. Is there no way to have an overclock AND keep these settings on? My PC is on 24/7 and I'd like it to clock down when not in use. However I do transcode .ts to mkv so like a decent overclock!
