card for 720p gaming

Antec truepower new modular 650w
Always trying to get the best performance, but just wondered whether there was much of a difference at that resolution?
At the moment, i have an HD5850 but am having problems with it, and thinking about replacing it.
You can get a 5770 for nearly half the price, would that be a considerable step down?
i could even get another one in a few months and crossfire it.

basically, what i am trying to ask is, is the price difference in cards (5770-5850-6950) really worth it at that resolution?

5850 is leaps and bounds above 5770. Forget the 5770, it is a big step down. And at the rez you are using 6950 is not going to be much of an upgrade. As far as the new AA mode, AMD are supposed to be supporting it on the 5800's in coming drivers. Keep the 5850 if you can. What is wrong with it?

Im sure your 5850 will still be within a standars 2yr warranty. Just RMA and get it replaced for free. Im guessing you want there to be a problem so you can upgrade?
Anyway, if you do get your 5850 replaced then you might consider crossfire. But wuth your res it would just mean a better benchmark score

artefacts apearing during games, been talking to oc about returning it.
here is a thread i started yesterday

i know that the 5850 is better than the 5770 by a distance, but when people talk about the difference, they are usually talking about high resolutions. i just wondered if i really needed it if i do all of my gaming on 720p.

i always use my tv for gaming as it is much better than my monitor.
