Great price on the 960, finally around the same price as the 950. I never really noticed that the 970 was 6 core lol, sandybridge interested me more at the time of purchase so just skipped it due to the price.

I'll take myself a 970 at <£300 and wait until 16 nm before changing my motherboard.

They should be that price very soon, or even less after Ivy Bridge comes out.

If it ever drops down to £250, instant buy :p

For £450, you can get a new motherbard and I7 2600k, so the 970 still isnt worth it at that price.

But isn't it true that all core i7's clock the same?

Bloomfield (quad core I7s) are 45 nm, but Gulftown (hex core I7s) are 32 nm, plus two extra cores. The extra cores are mostly pointless, but having them as well as a 32 nm upgrade for better overclocking for significantly less than the combined price of a 2600k and P67 (£400) will be worth it for people like me who dont want to change motherboards yet. So once its under £300, I'll get one.

Well, for an extra tenner, you can get yourself a 2600k, Asus P67 pro mobo, and 8 Gb ram lol!

Just add whichever cooler you want too.

I7 970 should be £300 max right now compared to that. I predict it will be after Ivy Bridge comes out.

Also I'd like an OEM version of the I7 970 for even less. If my I7 920 is still alive after so much torture, a 3 year warranty is meaningless on CPUs.

i990X finally being released?

Do these price drops mean that the i980x is shortly going to fall also - in order to make way for the i990x (or possibly i995X)?

Perhaps Intel are keeping this one close to their chest waiting to see what AMD's next offering brings to the table.

Andy showed off an ES 1366 CPU (i990X?) quite a long time ago, it seems Intel have dragged the release of this one for quite a while.

Its either got to be quite an easy clocker to over 5Ghz (as some posts suggest) or it has already missed its window (due to Sandy being such a good chip).

Either way, hurry up and release it INTEL, so the rest of the range can come down in price accordingly so they become competitive with AMD's new offering and indeed Intels own Sandy CPU's.

I wonder if any of the people saying six cores are pointless benefit from quad cores. Just a thought.

+1 to buying immediately at £250, I think that's a long way off though
