Not been around for along time so WAY behind with the tech. :(
Still using the spec in my sig but wanting to upgrade.
Looking for some advice as to which way to go really.
Want to start off with Graphics and go from there. Sticking with the Intel side never had any problems so will stick with what I know.
Say £500 as a base line to work with then go from there.
Have a Corsair 450W PSU as well. So if worth keeping will do if not then I'm looking for....
PSU
Graphics
Board
CPU
Memory.

Thanks peeps. :D

if that was my current spec id go a bit unorthadox......

keep mobo, cpu, ram as theres really no need to upgrade them atm

id get -

windows 7 home premium 64 bit
branded 6/700 watt psu
ati 6950 flashed to 6970
120gb ssd

you ll notice a massive difference in general usage with those upgrades compared to spending a fortune on a new platform with very little obvious benifits.

Thanks for the responses. Great help. :D
Don't really need huge Graphics at the minute but definitely wanted to go bigger.
I like the Corsair PSU's so may stick with those. Never had any problems with the 450w I have.
So what about these?

SSD - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-047-OC&groupid=1657&catid=1660&subcat=1668
^^^^ Is this one good? I don't need a huge main HD it will only be for O/S.
GPU - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-241-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866
£310.96 Total. So not to bad.
I think the 6850 will be plenty for me. It will be a major improvement on what I have.
Worthwhile or stop being a tight git and stump up for the 6900? lol
Thanks for any input guys. ;)

It depends on what games you like playing to be honest. If you would like to play all the latest games at 1920x1080 or above, at full settings, then the 69xx series will be better. If you play at 1680x1050 or below, then the 6850 will be fine.

Would agree with the above and say that you should hang on to your Q6600, perhaps a nice cooler and overclock it a little.

As you say, if you don't need a top end graphics card then the 6850 would be a good choice.

What games, if any, do you play. What resolution monitor do you have.

Would definitely recommend Windows 7, generally a much nice OS than Vista.

Regarding SSDs, the Vertex 2E is a good performer, good read and write speeds, but may be worth waiting for the next generation of Intel/OCZ/Crucial SSD which are soon to be released.

Good PSU there you've chosen. The XFX 650W is also very good and has had positive reviews.

It I was in your shoes, Win7, GPU & PSU now and wait for new generation SSD.

Also a new monitor and do wonders to make the PC feel new!:p

Thanks again for the replies guys. :)
Funny you should say that Shadow. My new 22" Widescreen turned up yesterday. Like I said in original post been away from the scene to much. I do want to be able to play the newer end games.
New monitor is currently set at 1920x1080. Seems to be doing ok. ;)
Cooling wise I have the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 worth going to the new one or trying something new. I like the A/C always done it's job. :)
So my choices are....
New GPU/PSU and O/S or SSD/GPU and PSU.
Either way I need to look at new PSU then take it from there.
Thanks for the input guys as always very helpful. :D

No problem.

...New GPU/PSU and O/S...

This would be my preferred upgrade path.

Either of the PSU's that were mentioned above would be great.

Just found this which maybe of interest;

XFX P1-650S-NLB9 650W Power Supply (PSU) for £58.79 inc delivery from a competitor.

As for the graphics card, a 6580 inc free game for £137.99 is a pretty nice deal and should be able to play pretty much everything on high settings (maybe not highest for the odd title). They also scale very nicely in Crossfire so you could add in a second later on. For a single card solution, I'd look at either the Asus GTX 480 or the 6950 (which can be easily flashed to a 6970).

Also remember if you know a student, they can get Windows 7 upgrade discs for about £40ish.

Put the rest towards a new generation SSD.
